Chapter 1234: Can’t Let Thomas Shaw Be Heartbroken
Chapter 1234: Can’t Let Thomas Shaw Be Heartbroken
The cook quickly brought out the fragrant tonkotsu ramen, and Casimir Shaw ran over happily at the smell.
"Go wash your hands." The man sitting on the sofa spoke in a low voice, and the young boy obediently went to wash his hands before coming back to sit at the dining table to eat.
The abandoned ragdoll cat brushed against Leah’s feet, staying far away from the man.
"Old Shaw, come and eat noodles." Casimir Shaw, with his mischievous eyes, said, "Food tastes better when you’re not eating alone."
"Hmm." Major General Richard Shaw, who hadn’t been eating well recently, responded lightly and got up to go to the dining table.
Leah suddenly felt an invisible pressure approach. The cat meowed softly and ran away.
Leah: "..."
Clearly, this was her home, and she had generously allowed this man to enter. Why did it feel like he had gained control like he was the owner?
"Mommy, join us for dinner. It’s really delicious." Casimir Shaw, ecstatic after eating the hot meat, looked at Leah with big, moist eyes, trying to charm her.
Leah, enticed by the aroma, nodded.
The servant brought another bowl of noodles from the kitchen. Thus, the family, who hadn’t seen each other in months, sat at the dining table in this strange setting and started to eat.
After dinner, Casimir Shaw hopped off to choose his room. Initially, he intended to sleep with Leah, but after seeing Old Shaw’s dangerously squinting expression, he quickly darted to his room to shower and sleep.
In the living room, the servants also went to rest, leaving only Leah and Richard Shaw, continuing the previous awkwardness.
"I’ll sleep at the hotel tonight." Richard Shaw spoke mildly, marking the first real exchange of words between them since their reunion.
Leah nodded and responded softly, then got up to return to sleep. The light in front of her dimmed; the man had already moved to the stairs, blocking her path.
"Why did you let me in?" Richard’s voice was extremely low. He stopped a couple of steps away from her, not touching her at all, yet managing to obstruct the only way forward.
Leah suddenly felt pressured, looking up at him, and replied calmly, "I can’t let Thomas be upset."
The man’s features, sharp and defined like chiseled stone, were somewhat hardened. He stood straight, his entire demeanor imprinted with years of military service. Like his personality, he was more reserved and withdrawn, radiating the mature charm unique to his age.
Leah had seen all kinds of men, but in her memory, only Richard Shaw was handsome in his youth, low-key in adulthood, and now even more reclusive, exuding a strong sense of security, very captivating.
A trace of frustration flashed in her eyes. She scolded herself for being so pathetic, having seen this man for over a decade and still not tired of it.
"Why did you return to the South Sea?" The man’s tea-colored eyes looked at her and asked in a low voice. His fingers slightly curled into a fist. She returned to the South Sea, let him into Squire Manor, and was willing to talk to him. Did that mean she no longer hated him so much? Was she willing to let him get closer?
Richard’s face showed no reaction, but internally he was tense to the extreme, holding his breath as he looked at her. Was there still hope for them?
"The South Sea is my home base. When I’m tired outside, of course, I want to go home." Leah thought such a conversation was very dangerous and quite unnecessary.
"I’m going to sleep. Close the door on your way out." Leah lifted her chin, signaling he could step aside.
The man’s figure, as steady as a mountain, did not move. He knew he should step aside, but his legs refused to obey.
This was the closest they had been in months.
Leah was suddenly embraced by him. She paused for a few seconds before struggling, but the man’s arms were like an unmovable fortress. His tea-colored eyes were hidden behind his long eyelashes, expression unclear, as he murmured intensely, "Be good~"
Leah’s body stiffened. Richard abruptly let her go, his tea-colored pupils shining with an incomprehensible light as he looked at her and said hoarsely, "Sleep early."
Leah waited until his straight-backed figure disappeared, then collapsed onto the stairs, looking weakly at the deep night outside, cursing softly.
Leah caressed the handrail as she went upstairs. After returning to her room, she found herself unable to sleep. Her complexion looked a bit bad the next day. She lingered in bed for a while, realizing it was almost noon, and remembering her son Casimir was at home, she couldn’t be a bad role model, so she finally got up and took a bath.
When she went downstairs, she saw Cornelius Turner returning with an eleven or twelve-year-old girl.
Cornelius chuckled awkwardly, "Miss, the boss asked me to come back."
Cornelius heard from the servants that Mr. Shaw had brought his son over last night, and instantly thought, damn, he’s in Brocade City, a hindrance to the boss, and now in the South Sea, he’ll surely be a nuisance to Miss Leah, naturally destined to be a third wheel wherever he goes.
