Chapter 479 - 478: As Long as You Speak, I’ll Be Willing to Believe—Why Won’t You Speak?
Damian Sinclair felt a heavy pressure in his heart, and the words that came out were unconsciously a bit sarcastic.
Bella Acker lowered her eyes and explained softly, "I came to Creston this afternoon to see you, but Senior Quinn..."
"Enough!" Damian coldly interrupted her, "Senior Quinn, Senior Quinn, if Ms. Acker thinks your Senior Quinn is more important than me, then why bother coming to see me?"
"No, that’s not it. Senior Quinn got into a car accident and is hospitalized; he almost died. I..."
Damian continued to interrupt her, "I also almost died!"
Bella’s face turned pale, "Damian..."
Damian looked at her expression, feeling a bit irritated, and raised his hand to rub his brow. He didn’t want to say those words, but somehow they just came out.
After a moment of silence, Damian spoke again, "I’m fine now; I can leave the hospital the day after tomorrow."
"How did you get a stomach bleed? Is it because you haven’t been eating well?"
"From drinking." Damian looked at her, "Are you sure you want to keep standing at the door talking to me?"
Bella pursed her lips and walked to his bedside with the flowers, saying, "You rarely drink alcohol, don’t you?"
"Frustrated." Damian said, "You just mentioned Archer Quinn was in a car accident? You weren’t with him at the time?"
"I was." Bella said, "We were coming to see you, and then a car hit the sidewalk. It was Senior Quinn who saved me, but he got injured himself. Besides me, there was no one else there; I couldn’t leave."
"I know." Damian’s gaze swept over her entire body, "You being here means you’re uninjured."
"Yes, I’m fine." Bella lowered her eyes and placed the flowers aside, her hands twisting unconsciously. After a while, she quietly asked, "Damian, you and... you and Cecilia Lynch really did..."
"Yes." Damian frowned. He had drunk a lot that day, and when someone approached, he thought it was Bella. But later, he seemed to realize something was wrong, only he’d blacked out from drinking and couldn’t remember what happened afterward.
The next morning when he woke up, both of them were lying naked in bed. On the white hotel sheets was a glaring patch of crimson.
He remembered that the first time he was with Bella, there was that same stain of red, so he knew it was the mark left after a woman’s first sexual experience.
Bella heard him admit it, and her heart sank, as if a bullet had suddenly pierced through her chest, filling it with cold air.
Bella lowered her head, biting her lip hard to suppress the sudden discomfort in her chest, but tears still fell with a plop onto the back of her hand.
"What do you plan to do now?" Bella whispered, "Mrs. Sinclair will want you to marry her, right?"
"My mom mentioned it."
"I see." Bella stood up, wiping her face messily with the back of her hand, nodding slightly, and murmured, "I’ve been waiting for your call all this time, but you never contacted me. I should’ve expected it. Sorry for bothering you."
After she finished speaking, Bella turned and wanted to flee.
She was waiting for his decision, ready to face it and bear everything, but what she was met with was the news of him sleeping with someone else, and the news that his mom wanted him to marry another.
Cecilia Lynch always said one thing: If Damian was with her, he’d have to break ties with his family. Someone who values family so much, why make it harder for him?
Marrying another woman, receiving his family’s blessing—maybe this is the best ending.
