Chapter 2761 - 2762: Ling Chen Vanishes
Chapter 2761 - 2762: Ling Chen Vanishes
Fo Lanying, in a fit of anger, went to release a small boat, but before she could even do so, she heard a huge explosion from afar over the sea.
"What’s going on?" Gao Zhou, startled, also came onto the deck, "I’m already an old man, can’t you let me have some peace of mind?"
Tang Feng squinted towards the distance, then suddenly laughed, "Ruozhu used the fire thunders we seized last time."
Previously in Kyoto, She Zongyi had someone plant a large number of fire thunders around the posthouse in an attempt to detonate them, but Bai Ruozhu discovered it early and dug all the fire thunders out.
Later, someone asked Bai Ruozhu how she disposed of those fire thunders. She deliberately didn’t say, but Tang Feng knew she must have stored them in the space.
For this kind of large sea monster with tough skin, fighting was ineffective, so it was more effective to throw a few fire thunders into its mouth.
Everyone looked bewildered, wondering how she managed to swim over with the fire thunders and ignite them successfully.
At this moment, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun hid in the space, watching the sea monster’s reaction on the "big screen." As expected, the sea monster howled in pain and eventually swam away dejectedly.
"We should head back," Jiang Yichun suggested.
"Alright."
Before leaving, she glanced at the white dragon egg, wondering about the future of Feng Cheng’s remnant soul.
The two quickly returned to the boat. Jiang Yichun still had a fish tail, so Bai Ruozhu straightforwardly carried him back to the room.
Everyone was already accustomed to seeing Jiang Yichun’s fish tail, except Yaxi found it a bit miraculous, but she was more envious of Sister Ruozhu carrying Lord Jiang; she looked so imposing and mighty.
Bai Ruozhu dried the water on Jiang Yichun’s legs and got a new pair of pants for him.
"It’s a good thing we’re rich, otherwise we couldn’t even afford to make pants," she joked.
Jiang Yichun put his pants back on, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, and said, "Who told my wife to be rolling in money?"
"Alright, stop fooling around, let’s go up and check on things. Not sure if anyone got injured." Bai Ruozhu said.
Unexpectedly, there was an urgent sound of footsteps from outside, and Fo Lanying shouted, "Ruozhu, come out quickly, Ling Chen is missing!"
Bai Ruozhu then remembered, Ling Chen was supposed to go with them to Zhongyuan and had undergone the fin cutting surgery, but she was still not used to walking with separated fins and couldn’t stay out of the water for long, so she soaked in a large wooden barrel every day. So Ling Chen said she might as well swim in the sea, it’s more comfortable.
But with such a huge commotion just now, she didn’t show up, which was out of character for her.
"She left me a conch and said to blow it if anything happens. I’ve blown it before and she could hear it, but just now I was worried about her and blew it for ages, yet she didn’t appear. Do you think the sea monster captured her?" Fo Lanying asked as soon as she entered the room.
"Sea monsters typically don’t capture people; they are more likely to swallow them directly, but I think with Ling Chen’s self-defense ability, she wouldn’t have been swallowed by a sea monster," Bai Ruozhu replied. However, her not showing up was clearly not normal.
Bai Ruozhu stood up and headed outside, "I’ll take some people to search the sea. You go get the waterproof pearl and come with me."
Jiang Yichun also got up and murmured, "Ah, another pair of pants."
Bai Ruozhu gave him a sidelong glance, "Can’t you take off your pants before getting into the water?"
"Dear, would you be willing to let others see me bare-bottomed?" Jiang Yichun replied.
Fo Lanying was speechless at their banter about pants and bare bottoms at such a time, thinking it might set a bad example for young children!
Before they left, the merfolk had given out some waterproof pearls, and Bai Ruozhu had distributed them to her companions, so that no one would drown if they fell into the sea.
She and Jiang Yichun went up to the deck and explained the situation to everyone.
"Could it be that the sea monster’s fin knocked her unconscious?" the astrologer suggested.
"That’s possible. Let’s take the waterproof pearls and split into pairs to search. Everyone can pair up freely," Bai Ruozhu said and then pulled Jiang Yichun into the sea.
Jiang Yichun ultimately did not take off his pants. Such an embarrassing act was beneath him, so he would have to work hard to earn money for new pants.
The two dived down, using night pearls for illumination, searching for two quarters of an hour, but found nothing, and so they temporarily returned to the surface.
Very soon, the others also returned, each shaking their heads in resignation.
The birdmen, seeing they couldn’t find anyone, were very anxious but had no choice, as the sky was their domain, and they couldn’t even handle water as well as ordinary people.
"I’d better go onboard and do some divination," the astrologer suggested.
Bai Ruozhu nodded, "Everyone’s exhausted already, let’s rest on the ship for a bit and avoid any accidents."
Jiang Yichun, however, refused to get back on the boat, contentedly swishing his tail in the water, "I’ll just soak here, saving one pair of pants."
"Stop joking around, we’re not poor enough to not afford pants," Bai Ruozhu was exasperated.
"I just find it cumbersome..." he said.
Indeed, if the divination pinpointed Ling Chen’s direction, they would still have to go underwater to search. He’d have to dry his legs and put on new pants every time he got out and back in, which was rather tedious.
Of course, Jiang Yichun didn’t mention that he didn’t want to always be carried back to the ship cabin room by his wife; it should be he who carries his wife.
Ning Yu helped the astrologer set up the magic array, their faces softened by the torchlight, looking more alike.
Fo Lanying winked at Diao Bin, who was standing by, "Could you mistake them for each other?"
"Of course not," Diao Bin wrinkled his nose, "Different aura."
Fo Lanying looked and said, "I can’t tell the difference anyway, good thing they have different styles in clothing."
The divination began, and the astrologer placed the conch Ling Chen left behind, quickly determining her location.
"The indication is just below us, not far away," the astrologer said.
"But everyone just searched all over, why didn’t we find her?" Fo Lanying asked, puzzled.
"Maybe we need to dive deeper," the astrologer guessed.
Bai Ruozhu pondered for a moment and said, "Everyone, rest first. Achun and I will go down again; he’s good in water and can dive deeper."
Everyone reminded them to be careful, and Bai Ruozhu returned to the water.
"Told you, saved a pair of pants." Jiang Yichun said.
Bai Ruozhu pinched him and stuffed a waterproof pearl into his mouth, "Hurry, dive a bit deeper."
Jiang Yichun hugged her waist and quickly dived, the surrounding sea becoming colder, and without a night pearl, they couldn’t see anything around them.
"Hmm, what’s that?" Bai Ruozhu squinted, the night pearl’s light was soft and limited in range, far-off areas were pitch black, visible only in outline.
He tightened his grip on her, "Let’s be cautious, and duck into your space if anything goes wrong."
"Alright." Bai Ruozhu took out another night pearl.
Jiang Yichun descended slowly, moving very cautiously, bringing those blurred outlines closer and closer, causing Bai Ruozhu to almost scream.
She suddenly pulled him into the space, gasping heavily.
