Chapter 334: Snowflake
Chapter 334: Snowflake
Keil noticed the faint flutter of the spirit beast’s eyelashes and immediately brightened.
"Nina, I think it’s waking up."
The words had barely left his mouth when Phar slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was a familiar face.
As expected. It was her.
Only her bloodline possessed the ability to form a direct contract with him.
Between a male and a female, the highest priority contract was always a mating bond. Because he had been unconscious when Nina formed the contract, the bond had automatically taken shape as a mating contract.
Divine mating bonds differed from those of ordinary beastfolk. They did not require the final ritual to establish the contract and create a bond mark.
However, if that final step had not been completed, the contract could still be dissolved, provided both parties agreed.
Keil was delighted to see the spirit beast awake.
"Nina, look! It really worked."
He laughed proudly.
"I told you contracting it would help. You woke it up."
Then he turned to Phar.
"You’d better thank Nina properly. She’s the one who saved you. Even if I was the one who came up with the idea."
Phar stared at him silently.
How impressive.
Nina gently stroked the little beast’s head.
"You finally woke up."
A trace of guilt appeared in her eyes.
"I’m sorry. I never intended to contract you while you were unconscious. We were worried something might happen if you stayed asleep for too long. Grandpa suggested that forming a contract might save you, so I decided to try."
Something about the situation puzzled her.
When she had contracted Roro and Goldy, she could clearly sense their emotions through the bond.
For some reason, that connection seemed strangely absent with this spirit beast.
Phar felt warmth creep into his face beneath her gentle touch. He had never been treated this way before. Yet he made no attempt to pull away.
Looking up at her, his expression grew confused.
So that was what had happened... Technically speaking, she was now his female master.
A quiet sigh escaped his lips. Perhaps this outcome was not so bad.
He had already promised that one day he would help her become stronger than himself. The fastest path toward that goal was through a true mating bond, allowing her to inherit his power.
Once she obtained the sacred artifacts she sought, he would fulfill that promise.
At that point, they could complete the final step and allow his strength to become hers.
The thought alone made the tips of his ears turn red.
A faint look of embarrassment crossed his handsome features. For now, however, he decided it would be wiser to conceal his true identity.
Remaining her spirit beast seemed like the safest choice.
Nina arched a brow as she studied him. Why did it look as though this little beast was blushing?
After a moment, she concluded that he was probably shy because he had spent so little time interacting with others.
That was easy enough to fix.
He would become accustomed to company eventually.
Smiling, she reached up and rubbed one of his ears.
"You’re so white." Her eyes curved warmly.
"I think I’ll call you Snowflake."
The ear beneath her fingers felt surprisingly hot.
Just as she suspected. He really was shy.
Phar could only sigh inwardly.
Was her naming process always this casual?
Still, he offered no objections. The name was temporary. If she liked it, she could call him whatever she pleased.
Without warning, Nina scooped him into her arms.
Phar froze completely. The warmth in his ears intensified immediately.
She was carrying him. Actually carrying him.
Meanwhile, Nina headed toward the bathing room with him nestled against her chest.
"Alright." Her tone was cheerful. "Let’s get you cleaned up first."
She preferred her pets neat and well cared for.
Besides, she genuinely liked Snowlflake’s beast form.
The pristine white fur, the elegant build, and the noble bearing gave him an almost sacred beauty that was difficult to ignore.
Phar’s entire body stiffened.
Did she just say she was going to bathe him?
Around them, several mates exchanged displeased glances.
Sal was the first to speak.
"Nina, let us handle that."
His gaze lingered suspiciously on the newcomer.
"This little beast just arrived. Why should he receive special treatment?"
Aviel immediately agreed.
"Exactly." A trace of jealousy flashed across his face. "You’ve never even bathed me before."
Aviel immediately reached out, intending to take Phar from Nina’s arms.
Phar reacted as if facing a mortal threat.
He clung desperately to Nina, twisting away from Aviel’s grasp with all his strength. His golden eyes were filled with undisguised resistance.
There was absolutely no way he would allow another male to carry him.
As for letting a male bathe him, that was even less acceptable.
Nina had been about to agree that one of her mates could handle it, but seeing the little beast’s fierce rejection, she changed her mind.
"It’s alright. I’ll do it myself."
She gently stroked Phar’s snowy fur.
"He’s still nervous around strangers."
When Roro and Goldy had first arrived, they had been wary of everyone too. It had simply taken time for them to grow comfortable.
Mino glanced at the spirit beast.
"Why not let him wash himself? Roro and Goldy manage just fine. He’s not exactly small."
Phar immediately nodded from Nina’s arms.
Exactly. He was perfectly capable of bathing himself. The thought of Nina personally washing him made his ears burn all over again.
Nina frowned.
"I’d rather do it myself. He probably won’t clean himself properly."
Roro’s version of bathing usually consisted of jumping into water, splashing around briefly, and declaring himself clean. More often than not, Nina had to send one of the males or Ridan to wash him properly afterward.
Since the cubs frequently played with the spirit beasts, she insisted on keeping them clean.
Phar wanted to explain that he was entirely capable of proper hygiene.
Unfortunately, revealing that fact would require speaking.
Unable to do so, he buried his face deeper into her shoulder.
Forget it. If she wanted to wash him, then she could. After all, she was his future female master.
With that reluctant conclusion, he allowed himself to be carried into the bathing room.
At first, he remained rigid and tense, allowing Nina to scrub and rinse him without moving.
Gradually, however, his body relaxed.
To his growing embarrassment, he began enjoying it.
Being cared for by a gentle little female felt unexpectedly pleasant.
Around the doorway, the males watched with increasingly dark expressions.
Look at him. Enjoying himself far too much.
This shameless little white beast had refused all of them, yet happily accepted Nina’s personal attention.
Setan stood among them and sighed quietly. Even a spirit beast had a better life than he did.
Still, his mood improved when he remembered their next destination.
Blazing Flame City.
His territory.
He had already sent word ahead so everything would be prepared before Nina arrived.
This time, he would make sure she received the finest welcome possible.
More importantly, he intended to help her secure the next sacred artifact no matter what.
After the bath was finished, Nina carefully dried Phar’s fur until it gleamed.
Then she carried him toward the room shared by Roro and Goldy.
Nestled against her arms, Phar secretly stole a glance at her.
To his horror, he realized he was actually reluctant for the experience to end.
Nina pushed open the door.
"Snowlfake, this is where you’ll stay from now on."
She placed him on a soft new bed she had prepared especially for him.
A freshly made nest sat atop the mattress.
"You can sleep here."
Setting him down gently, she turned toward the other two spirit beasts.
"Roro, Goldy, this is your new companion. You are not allowed to bully him."
The two spirit beasts instantly shrank into a corner.
Bullying him? They were terrified he might decide to bully them.
Nina blinked in confusion.
Why were they acting so frightened?
She turned back to Phar. "And you aren’t allowed to bully them either."
Phar looked away. As the Beast God, bullying ordinary spirit beasts was beneath his dignity.
He cast a cool glance toward Roro and Goldy.
The pair immediately scrambled over on trembling legs and nodded obediently at Nina before retreating to a safe distance.
Nina crouched and rubbed their heads affectionately.
"Good. I’m leaving now. Make sure you all get along."
Satisfied, she stood and left the room.
The moment the door closed, Phar surveyed the territory. His gaze landed on the various nests scattered across the bed.
Roro and Goldy reacted instantly. Each grabbed their own nest and hurried off the mattress.
They relocated everything to the farthest corner of the room before settling down.
Their actions made their intentions perfectly clear.
Aside from their tiny corner, every other inch of the room belonged to the boss.
Phar calmly inspected the bed, rearranged everything to his liking, and finally settled into his new nest.
Only then did he close his eyes.
. . .
Another day passed peacefully.
Once all preparations were complete, Nina gathered her companions and began the journey toward Blazing Flame City.
