Chapter 838 - 565: Using a Cannon to Shoot Mosquitoes
Early in the morning, before daylight, I slept in the car at night. Even with coats and blankets, it wasn’t too cold, but it wasn’t really comfortable either. My sleep quality definitely suffered a lot.
For people who don’t fish, the temptation of staying in a warm bed in the morning would definitely cause their willpower to plummet. But for fishermen, no matter how comfortable the bed is, it can’t compare to the phrase ’the bites are on’.
After Zhang Yang shouted a few times around the campsite, a group of people hurriedly got out of their cars.
"Bites? Really?"
"Fish biting?"
"Are they big? Are the bites fast?"
A bunch of bleary-eyed people, with sleep still in their eyes, eagerly asked Zhang Yang about the fishing conditions.
Zhang Yang waved his hand and pointed to his fish guard, saying, "I don’t know exactly how fast the bites are, but as soon as I put the red worm down, I got a double catch on the first rod! You all should try your own spots, I think the bites should be fast this morning!"
The first rod got a double tail, so what are we waiting for? A group of people didn’t even wash their faces and quickly climbed onto their fishing boxes, impatiently casting their rods to fish.
It turned out that getting bites at the spots wasn’t an isolated incident. Zhang Yang’s spot had bites, and the spots others had baited the night before worked very well too, with large crucian carps being quite numerous. The first few casts often got bites immediately, and after catching a few smaller fish, they started catching large ones weighing seven to eight taels.
In early spring, when the water temperature is low and fish are relatively less active, baiting overnight is a reliable fishing strategy. We already had some advantage by taking over others’ spots, and baiting overnight matched the early morning fish activity, so catching fish continuously wasn’t surprising.
Since the start of winter, Zhang Yang hadn’t held a fishing rod for at least two months, except for playing a few times in the Winter Fishing Hall’s warm tent. Today is like the start of a new fishing year. With large crucian carps frequently biting, Zhang Yang was extremely excited. Occasionally, when a large fish struggled and snapped the line, Zhang Yang felt tension in every nerve.
Early in the morning, the temperature was indeed a bit low, but a dozen or so people, including Brother Ma and two girls, were all fishing diligently at their spots. After catching several big fish in a row, sweat appeared on their noses.
This wave of early bites lasted from before six in the morning until after eight, when the sun gradually rose and the fish bites began to thin out.
It was quite strange. According to normal logic, when the sun rises, the temperature gets higher, and the fish bites should improve, but the fish in this sharp area of the Qu River didn’t follow the usual rules.
Around eight-thirty, even the spot with the fastest bites, Old Zhao’s, completely stopped having bites.
"Boss, any bites left?" Liu Zi shouted from a few spots away.
Zhang Yang replied, "No more bites! No activity here either!"
"Aren’t we forgetting something? Zhang Yang, I’m hungry!" Xiao Wei, who was squatting at the fishing spot next to Zhang Yang, couldn’t bear it anymore and said with some embarrassment.
"Oh no, I’ve been so focused on fishing that I forgot about breakfast! Alright, you all watch the gear here; I’ll go to town and buy breakfast for everyone! Liu Zi, stop fishing and come with me!" Zhang Yang slapped his forehead, realizing his stomach was growling as well, and quickly got up, calling Liu Zi to go with him to get breakfast.
"Why don’t you rest here, and I’ll go get it!" Brother Ma readily stood up from his fishing box.
After dinner last night, under Zhang Yang’s persuasion, Brother Ma moved his fishing spot to this sharp area and used two packs of Zhang Yang’s special homemade rice for making wine. Perhaps wanting to return the favor to this new friend, Brother Ma was very enthusiastic about buying breakfast.
"No need, Brother Ma. I don’t think anyone is picky, right? Liu Zi and I will go buy it. It’s not far, and with the car, we can be there in no time!" Zhang Yang waved his hand, rejecting Brother Ma’s suggestion.
"Just buy something simple to eat, like buns, fried dough sticks, or bean curd. Whatever’s available!"
"I want salty soy milk with chili and garlic chives!"
"Bean curd with meat flatbread! Add a few cloves of garlic!"
"Bean curd +1!"
...
As the team leader, Zhang Yang personally went to buy the food, but the others were not at all shy about speaking up. Following the lead of YOYO and Xiao Wei, the rest quickly chimed in with their choices.
After taking a simple count of everyone’s preferences, Zhang Yang and Liu Zi drove back onto the main road after making a few turns, heading straight for the nearest small town.
Luckily, it was early spring, and the breakfast stalls were open for a long time. Zhang Yang and Liu Zi wandered around the commercial street for a while before finding a spot selling breakfast.
As the providers, Zhang Yang and Liu Zi definitely wouldn’t take the breakfast back to eat it with everyone. After packing the teammates’ breakfast, they first took care of their stomachs in the store.
Salty soy milk with garlic chives and chili, a meat flatbread fresh off the rustic stove, still crispy on the outside—take a bite, gently blow a breath, and the steam from inside escapes. After a little cooling, take a delicious bite, savoring the rich fragrance of the meat and juicy goodness. Then take a bite of garlic clove, doubling the flavor.
After a hearty chew, scoop a spoonful of bean curd and slurp it into your mouth—the taste is simply amazing, delicious beyond words.
After about ten minutes, Zhang Yang and Liu Zi finished eating and returned the same way with the breakfast.
Upon returning to the camp, everyone was a bit too hungry to go on and had been drinking hot water to tide themselves over.
