Chapter 283: S Rank Adventurers Party vs. Chimera Mother, Round 2!? — Part 5.
Lita stared down at the hood, waiting for any sign of blood, a stumble, or a crack in the defense. But as the dust fully cleared, the horrifying reality set in.
Maddy hadn’t shifted her footing by a single millimeter. Her boots were still buried deep in the cracked cobblestones, anchored like iron pillars. The heavy masonry that should have crushed her skull had been reduced to a fine powder, dusting her shoulders like harmless snow. She had caught Lita’s high tier water magic with one hand and stopped an S rank assassin with the other.
"No way..."
Zaun muttered, his cold, professional demeanor completely shattering. He pushed against the greatsword with all his might, but it felt like trying to push a mountain.
"She stopped everything. Simultaneously. With pure physical force."
Erwin’s face went completely blank. The tactical calculations in his head ground to a violent halt. This wasn’t just a strong opponent. This was an entirely different tier of existence. They had thrown a perfect S rank combo at her, and she hadn’t even blinked.
Maddy slowly tilted her head up, the dark void of her hood shifting as her glowing violet eyes locked onto them. A low, soft chuckle vibrated from her chest, sending a fresh wave of dread through the party.
"Is that really the best an S rank team can do?" Maddy asked, her tone entirely casual, as if she were barely exerting herself. "You have great synergy, I’ll give you that. But your attacks lack weight."
With a sudden, effortless flex of her muscles, she flicked her shield and greatsword outward, throwing Lita and Zaun off balance and forcing them to stumble back into the damp alley walls.
Through her Compound Vision, she saw the exact positioning of every member. They were overextended, hyper focused on the impact zone, and completely exposed.
"You spent so much time worrying about the flashy combo that you forgot to watch your own... flanks," Maddy murmured.
"Playtime is over... Kids."
Using the moment the dust cleared to her absolute advantage, Maddy initiated her counter offensive. Her goal wasn’t to kill, but to thoroughly dismantle their ability to fight, leaving them entirely immobilized.
Maddy moved. Her Serpentine Locomotion allowed her to glide forward across the fractured stones like a specter, closing the distance to Erwin before the captain could even reset his stance.
"oh—F*CK! She is coming! Everyone, BRACE YOURSELVES!"
Erwin, recognizing the immediate threat, forced his exhausted muscles to react. He swung his heavy claymore upward, trying to form a hasty, desperate block. But Maddy’s Reflexive Body Control made her far too fast.
Instead of clashing blades, Maddy used a lightning fast:
"CLEAN CUT!"
The strike wasn’t meant to sever, but to disarm. The flat of her massive greatsword slammed violently against the crossguard of Erwin’s claymore with precise, crushing force. The sheer vibration and weight tore the weapon completely out of Erwin’s grip, sending it spinning into the darkness of the alley.
The heavy claymore clattered loudly against the stone walls before vanishing into the shadows of the alley. Erwin stood frozen, his hands still raised in a blocking stance, his palms numb and bleeding from the sheer force of the vibration. The weapon he had carried through dozens of deadly campaigns was gone in a single, effortless motion.
A cold, hollow feeling settled in his chest. His breathing turned ragged as he stared at his empty hands, then slowly looked up at the hooded figure looming over him.
For the SECOND time in his career as an S rank captain, Erwin felt completely powerless. He didn’t yell orders. He didn’t reach for a backup weapon. He just stood there, his chest heaving, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and sheer disbelief. Every tactical plan, every defensive formation, and every ounce of his pride had been shattered along with his grip.
"Unbelievable..." Erwin whispered, his voice trembling as he met her violet gaze. "It was just like back then... No—worse. You never even intended to kill us."
His throat tightened.
"You just wanted to show us how easily you could."
A long silence followed before he finally forced the words out.
"Who... are you?"
Maddy didn’t answer his question. She didn’t offer a name, a title, or even another mocking taunt. Instead, the faint amusement in her violet eyes vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating focus. Erwin’s realization that she was holding back didn’t change her objective; it just meant the evaluation was officially complete.
She had seen enough.
Before Erwin could step back or draw a sidearm, Maddy lunged. Utilizing the Constricting Strength of her ogre and snake traits, she stepped deep into his guard and delivered a powerful, open palm strike directly to the center of his chest plate.
The impact did not shatter the armor, but the focused kinetic force traveled right through the metal, striking his diaphragm. The air left Erwin’s lungs in a violent, silent gasp. His vision instantly blurred from the sudden lack of oxygen, and his legs buckled beneath him.
As Erwin collapsed forward, completely incapacitated and unable to draw a single breath to call out to his team, Maddy caught him by the shoulder and laid him down gently against the stone wall. He was wide awake, his eyes rolling in sheer shock, but his nervous system was temporarily paralyzed—completely immobilized, yet breathing safely.
"CAPTAIN!"
Lita’s scream tore through the alley, her loud voice cracking with pure panic. She took a step forward, her hands shaking so badly she almost dropped her staff.
"No, no, no! Erwin! Get up!"
"Erwin!"
Ed yelled, his face draining of all color. He frantically tried to reload his magic musket, his fingers fumbling with the cartridges in sheer terror. His anchor, the strongest man he knew, had been dropped with a single open-palm strike.
"What did you do to him?! Move away from him!"
Maddy didn’t bother looking back at them as she stood up from the unconscious captain.
"No more time for talking," she said softly, her voice barely carrying over the cold wind. "Let’s end this."
