Chapter 813 - 421: Damn, She Caught Me
Chapter 813 - 421: Damn, She Caught Me
There are precisely four people in the office, including Avery Jane.
The other three are Mimi Diaz, Lucy Clark, and the most outspoken, Emma White.
"I swapped out my man." As soon as she entered the office, Emma huffed and plopped down in a chair, tore open a bread bag, and took a fierce bite.
"Wasn’t your Mr. Zhang tall and mighty? Why change him?" Mimi leaned over, tore off a piece of bread from Emma’s, and stuffed it into her mouth.
"He wasn’t good at all, you know?" Emma said disdainfully.
"Oh, come on, men nowadays have a lot of work stress, no time to work out, none of them are doing well now." Lucy’s voice drifted lazily from another desk.
"He needs to be reliable, you know? Looking at him, he seemed strong but turned out to be a paper tiger with weak feet." Emma said angrily.
"What counts as reliable?" Avery cautiously asked with her head down, seemingly inexperienced in this area. Yesterday, Joshua Hughes complained multiple times that her health was poor.
"It’s really hard to quantify with data." Emma shrugged and continued eating her bread.
She mentally marked countless crosses over Joshua’s handsome face, truly a scoundrel.
The young and promising designer from the adjacent engineering department, slicked-back hair, swaggered over, propping himself against the desk with a hand in his pocket. He looked at Avery and asked, "Avery, are you free for lunch today? I’d like to treat you."
"Oh, no." What did he put on his hair? It smelled strange, Avery subtly frowned.
"Hurry and go, this isn’t the engineering department. Don’t you have that female Ph.D. there?" Mimi stomped, trying to push him out.
"Mimi, you stomp your foot and say a word—that’s being wild. Learn from Avery. When she stomps, it makes ripples, that’s real flirting, you know?" The atmosphere is always lively during the ten minutes before work. The engineer awkwardly smiled at Mimi’s not-so-prominent figure, chased out by Mimi.
"Avery, you’re the flower here. Come on, tell us about your boyfriend? You said you have one, right? How is he? Is he hot?" Avery’s turtleneck black tight sweater accentuated her curves to perfection.
"I don’t know..." Avery stammered, using the excuse to pour hot water and rushed out. It looked like she wouldn’t have lunch with them today; she heard the lunch boxes from a nearby place were delicious. She planned to sneak over to buy one and eat at his office instead. Thinking this, she secretly smiled.
The morning went by quickly. By noon, Avery bought two lunch boxes early, walked from the underground parking. She had the code for Joshua Hughes’s dedicated elevator, going straight to his top floor without being seen. The lunch box was warm, emitting fragrance; Avery watched the numbers climbing with excitement.
In this kind of winter, wearing low-cut dresses, sure, many TV celebs walk red carpets, but not in real life. Donna took off her short lake-green mink coat, revealing a matching tight low-cut dress underneath. Unlike Avery, who was cold and pitiful, always cold with icy hands and feet, Donna wasn’t afraid of the cold.
"If you can’t make decisions, phone your husband for approval. I don’t have time to tangle with you." Joshua tried to suppress his anger; he’d dealt with this woman’s entanglements before—always infuriating.
"It’s fiancé, Joshua, he’s not my husband yet." Her carefully groomed brows and eyes carried seductive charm; Donna winked at Joshua innocently.
He should be okay with this, she thought; besides, the boss gifted her some side dishes and two braised eggs.
"Joshua, do you dare not come near me—is it because you’re afraid again, afraid of falling for me once more? This time, I won’t be playful; I’ll focus solely on you." Donna sat on Joshua’s lap, curling her arms around his neck, murmuring closely.
Too confident. Joshua coldly sneered, allowing her teasing. This kind of woman truly needed her arrogance struck down a peg......
Joshua watched Donna’s actions, coldly smiling, as if viewing a performance. Just as her lips approached him, he grabbed her hair, intent on pushing her away.
These tricks meant nothing special to him anymore; he found them rather annoying.
The outer secretary’s room was empty—likely everyone was downstairs at the employee cafeteria. Avery had a brief hesitation on her pure, beautiful face; was she being too casual just barging in like this? But didn’t he say she could see him anytime? Wasn’t this... a privilege?
Avery pressed a smile, walking into the office, considering first gently knocking on the door......
"Joshua, have you forgotten everything we had before?"
Joshua didn’t glance at her, his eyes focused on the pulsing curves on the computer screen, speaking coldly: "Forgotten....." He didn’t want to utterly fall out with Donna just yet; after all, the cooperation between the two corporations involved significant interests.
"You’ll remember again........" Donna’s beautiful eyes shone with greed; she needed to hold onto his heart tightly. Compared to Adam, Joshua was evidently far superior in every aspect.
Joshua frowned, sensing her increasingly bold actions.
For many years, Joshua genuinely forgot about it, setting aside the trouble-laden thoughts, his tone remained ice cold: "Donna, there’s a saying in the U.S.A: enough is enough......"
The woman knelt on the ground stiffened, almost biting her lip in anger, but she was unwilling to give up. Had he not hidden his identity back then, why would she have sought another man?
The gentle knock carried a hint of cautiousness, seemingly so light that it almost went unheard. Avery noticed no movement inside, thought about leaving, yet turned back, her slender hand opening the tightly closed door.......
The scene unfolded before her made her hand instantly tremble, her clear eyes quivered, meeting the man’s deep gaze.......
For a moment, Avery felt her throat was stuffed like a block of coarse fabric, her vision overwhelmed.
Joshua stood abruptly, the girl stood at the door, frozen as if unable to breathe, her gaze fixed on the two in the office, emotions surging; Avery reflexively blurted: "Sorry......." Her small trembling hand shut the door with a "slam".....
She could barely breathe, her soft spine pressed against the office door; her face was paper pale, deeply inhaling, without thinking, she strode towards the elevator; she needed to leave immediately.......
Joshua even wondered if he’d just seen things—her sweet, charming figure suddenly appeared at the door, then quickly fled like she was startled, her face turning pale, slightly trembling, evoking such heartache.
Joshua was taken aback, instantly reacting, finally realizing what had happened.
She’d come to see him, she’d actually come looking for him, damn it, she even saw such a shocking scene.
