Chapter 145: Smile And Feed Their Ego
Chapter 145: Smile And Feed Their Ego
Doing something for yourself gives motivation but doing something for others gives meaning.
Hena forgot the key to her house inside her house. Again.
Draxus complained about it and Hena showed no remorse or guilt for that. She became numb to it by now.
But they had to enter inside as they needed money.
So Xavier suggested that he would break the door but Hena refused the offer without a second thought.
Xavier didn’t like that but before things could escalate, Zane stepped forward.
"I can... might... help. I think. Probably."
"Pick one!" Draxus yelled.
Zane wasn’t sure whether he should help or not.
He had ways of opening any locks but he didn’t know if he should show the power to Hena and the others.
Conflux should remain secret and if Zane opened the door, it would open him to various questions.
"Well?" Xavier asked.
They waited for Zane’s next words and in the end, the gutterborn sighed.
"I can open doors without keys."
Everyone raised their brows.
"For real?" Draxus asked.
Zane nodded.
"Then do it."
Draxus moved to the side.
Zane looked at Hena and the girl gave him permission.
Only after that did Zane go towards the door.
He took out the Key Of Oblivion from his pocket and brought it near the door knob.
The door had no lock hanging on it but the knob had a space to insert a key.
But since Zane now had a ring instead of anything shaped as a key, he wasn’t sure how the ring would work.
Nevertheless, he trusted in his system, in its products at least and began the work.
But just when he was about to make the ring touch the knob...
"Wow. Robbery in daylight."
A voice came.
It was a different voice from the people who were with Zane.
The one who spoke was someone else.
Zane’s palms found sweat as with a trembling heart, he turned around.
All eyes focused on the new person and it was the same person whom they were afraid about.
A Warden.
The man stood with a smile at the gate of Hena’s mansion as he watched the five people gathered in front of the main door.
He eyed everyone of them and his gaze stopped at the man closest to the door.
Zane Atlas.
"You lot sure have the guts to steal from this area." He said.
Zane gulped.
Draxus clenched his jaw and stepped forward.
Hena did the same but she was about to speak.
But before both of them could do what they wanted, Zane stopped them by placing his hand in front of them.
Xavier was ready to wipe the floor with the Warden but seeing Zane stopping Draxus and Hena, Jammy stopped Xavier as well.
All of them watched him and Zane stepped forward.
"How much?" He asked.
The Warden smiled. "Sixty percent of what you will find inside."
"That is too much." Zane said.
The warden stopped smiling.
He placed the tip of his sword on Zane’s chin, covered with the scarf.
"Just be grateful that I am not reporting you and throwing you into prison. If it were any other house, I would have killed all of you right here."
The cold touch of the sword sent shivers to Zane’s spine but when he remembered what he had faced in the Cathedral, the sword appeared like a toy.
But what did he mean by any other house?
Zane won’t ask about it but if he had to guess, it was an easy answer.
This house belonged to Hena who was considered a traitor so the Warden didn’t mind her money getting stolen.
"Alright." Zane said. "Sixty percent of the loot will belong to you. But make sure no one else comes here. No one disturbs us. And please remove your sword from me, sir. I am scared."
Zane made his voice lighter and the fear he felt when the Warden first caught him vanished as well.
The warden laughed and removed his sword from Zane’s chin.
Zane had done the same thing which he does to everyone who thought of themselves bigger than others.
He made them even bigger.
Zane showed obedience to the Warden, superiority and what not and that gave pleasure to the man.
"Yes. I will keep an eye here. Now finish your work."
Zane nodded and dashed towards Hena’s door.
But unlike Zane, others weren’t as domesticated as him.
Draxus and Xavier threw daggers with their eyes while Hena and Jammy watched Zane’s actions.
The Warden stayed outside Hena’s mansion and did small rounds, not enough to make the other Wardens suspicious.
Also, at this time, most of the owners of the nearby houses were at their work so there wasn’t any risk of neighbours seeing Zane and the others.
And if it came to worse, then Hena could simply reveal herself and tell everyone that it was her own mansion.
Zane placed his black ring in front of the knob but nothing happened.
He didn’t know what to do but then he decided to give the oval shaped black gem on the top of the ring a try.
He placed the gem right at the knob and the next second, his eyes widened.
The black gem turned to liquid in front of his eyes and went inside the keyhole.
The gem vanished from the ring and in the blink of an eye...
TUK!
A sound came from the knob and Zane turned it clockwise.
THUD!
The door opened.
Zane gulped.
He stared at the ring and was surprised to see the black gem had come back again.
What kind of key my parents had kept in their bag?
Zane shook his head and wore the ring in his middle finger.
He then turned around and met with shocked gazes of his teammates.
Jammy laughed.
"Well done."
Xavier sighed.
"If anyone else saw you doing this, they would think you really stole the relic."
"Shh. He will hear it." Zane reminded.
"My bad."
Xavier apologized and walked forward.
Everyone else did the same but Hena was the first one to enter.
Then the others followed and after everyone was in, Zane closed the door.
But just upon entering, Xavier again said something worth apologizing for.
"I am finally inside a girl."
