Chapter 508: War Begins
Chapter 508: War Begins
Jenny looked at Xu Xiangbei in surprise, not understanding how Little Qi, like a magician performing a grand magic trick, could pull Xu Xiangbei out of the wardrobe just like that.
She almost suspected Little Qi was performing magic, and the Xu Xiangbei in front of her was just a Blinding Technique, a phantom, a trick Little Qi played on her deliberately.
Jenny fell silent, standing quietly at the doorway, watching Xu Xiangbei and Little Qi, her hand still on the doorknob, suddenly regretting coming here tonight and even more regretful for not leaving sooner.
For some reason, a wave of anger spread in her heart. Little Qi was always competing with her for things, from childhood to now, never stopping, whether it was food or toys. She always gave what she thought was best to this rebellious little sister with good nature.
What she couldn’t tolerate was that her continuous concessions only resulted in misunderstanding, intensified competition.
She did love Xu Xiangbei, but she was rational, suppressing this feeling in her heart. She wasn’t the type to become foolish for love, forsaking everything. She had work to do and many other things to busy herself with.
She never thought to compete with Little Qi for a man. But Little Qi wanted to snatch even the man she liked, which saddened her deeply—an unappreciated sadness that felt like a methane field ignited by Xu Xiangbei, turning thick sadness into anger.
A thought rose within her from nowhere, and she strode towards Xu Xiangbei, grabbing his hand with all her might: "Little Qi, you’re too much. I like him, and I’m announcing now that this is the first time I’m fighting others for anyone."
Seeing Jenny declare her intention to fight for Xu Xiangbei, Little Qi screamed and grabbed Xu Xiangbei’s other hand: "He’s my man; you’re not allowed to take him away."
With both hands pulled by Jenny and Little Qi, Xu Xiangbei forced a bitter smile: "I’m not a thing; I’m a person. It’s not nice for you two to fight over me like this. Oh no, I am a thing. Forget it, I won’t say anymore. Ladies, please let me go."
Jenny, eyes filled with anger and tears, took out her police badge with a cold smile: "Little Qi, if you don’t let go of Xu Xiangbei, I’ll abuse public authority, confiscate all the stolen goods here, and issue a warrant to arrest you."
Scared by Jenny’s seriousness, Little Qi quickly released her hold, stomping her feet in frustration: "Jenny, you’re ruthless, but you won’t really do that, right? If you dare, you’ll become the enemy of our Thief Alliance."
Jenny sneered coldly: "It depends on your sister’s mood."
Xu Xiangbei tried to ease the tension, smiled, and advised: "Jenny, don’t be angry. Little Qi is just joking with you."
But Jenny showed not a hint of amusement: "Will you come with me or not? If not, I’ll charge you with attempted murder."
With a bitter smile, Xu Xiangbei found himself caught between the crossfire of two forces and decided it was best to say less. He told Little Qi, "You’re the one who dragged me out of the wardrobe; I have no choice. Goodbye."
After speaking, he had no choice but to obediently follow Jenny away.
Little Qi pouted angrily, stomped her foot, and pointed at Jenny: "Yang Jenny, from today onwards, we are sworn enemies."
Jenny revealed a vengeful smile: "Little Qi, same here."
The old groundhog was awakened by the quarrel between Little Qi and Jenny, surprised to see Jenny dragging a man out of Little Qi’s room.
"Little Qi, what’s going on, what happened?"
Little Qi pouted to her grandfather: "Grandpa, Jenny, she bullied me."
Seeing his granddaughter’s teary eyes and pitiful appearance, the old groundhog felt heartbroken: "How did she bully you?"
"Shamelessly, she stole my boyfriend."
He first let out a bitter laugh, then angrily called Yang Qianshou: "Why aren’t you minding your granddaughter? Does being a cop make her so great that she dares to snatch Little Qi’s boyfriend? It’s all because of you, you useless grandfather, teaching her so poorly. Why don’t you let her arrest us all?"
Yang Qianshou was still cozy at home under the covers. Receiving the old groundhog’s call, he was scolded without context and got angry: "I can’t deal with stealing boyfriends. Our ancestors taught us that as long as you like what you see, go for it."
With that, Yang Qianshou hung up the phone. When the old groundhog called back, he got an automated message saying the number was now unreachable.
The old groundhog spat venomously: "Good for you, Yang Qianshou, daring not to answer my call and even turning off the phone. Looks like you want to start a war with me. Fine, we’ll see about that."
Heji Cafe is right next to the Emperor’s Pavilion, separated by a few shops, and it’s open 24 hours.
On the sidewalk next to Heji Cafe, Xu Xiangbei’s silver Porsche was parked.
Jenny gently stirred the coffee with a small spoon, holding her chin in thought.
Xu Xiangbei sat across from her, yawning, and asked helplessly: "Sherlock Holmes Miss Jeanie, aren’t you sleepy at all?"
A shy smile crept across Jenny’s lips: "Now that you mention it, I do feel a bit sleepy."
Xu Xiangbei couldn’t help his curiosity: "If you’re sleepy, why not go home to sleep, instead of coming here to drink coffee?"
Jenny looked at Xu Xiangbei blankly: "I just don’t want to sleep."
"I know you feel bothered, fighting with your best sister, almost getting into a fistfight. But look at it this way, to err is human; she might one day realize the value of your friendship and make up with you."
"Not best sisters, but like real sisters; we grew up together, not related but closer than real sisters. Her wanting to snatch my boyfriend is what upsets me the most."
Xu Xiangbei forced a bitter smile: "What’s so good about me that you’re fighting over me?"
Jenny showed a mocking smile: "I’m not fighting because she wants to take you from me; you just happened to be involved—you are not my boyfriend."
"Whether I’m your boyfriend or not, I suggest you go home and sleep. I’m about to die from exhaustion. I’ll give you ten more minutes; if you don’t leave after ten minutes, I’ll leave by myself."
Seeing Xu Xiangbei truly exhausted, Jenny showed a guilty expression: "I’m really sorry for keeping you with me until now. I’ll leave after I finish this cup of coffee."
Suddenly, they overheard the waitstaff chatting: "A shop next door is on fire."
"Which one?"
"Seems like it’s the Emperor’s Pavilion."
Xu Xiangbei, half-asleep and not fully alert, jumped up upon hearing about the fire at the Emperor’s Pavilion: "What did you say, the Emperor’s Pavilion is on fire?"
The waitstaff, with a tense expression, replied: "Yes, it’s burning badly. Someone has already called the fire department. Let’s hope it doesn’t spread to us here."
