Chapter 274: Falcoln’s True Purpose (2)
Chapter 274: Falcoln’s True Purpose (2)
"You’re the one who has the blood, yet you know nothing about it?" Falcoln asked, pretending to look surprised. "How pitiful."
Cyrus’s expression instantly turned darker.
"What are you talking about?" Roxanna demanded coldly.
Falcoln only laughed softly. "You really married him without knowing anything?" he mocked. "How brave... or maybe just foolish."
"Stop speaking in riddles," Cyrus snapped sharply. "Explain yourself."
Unfortunately, Falcoln was never the type of person who liked explaining things to his slaves. So instead of answering, he suddenly let out a loud whistle, giving a signal for his people to attack the Vixeria Tribe.
"Show them no mercy!" Falcoln shouted across the battlefield. "They killed one of our people and even injured your leader! The only punishment they deserve is death!"
He then glanced toward Cyrus and slowly licked his lower lip. "And as for you..." he said coldly, "I will drain every drop of blood from your body until you can no longer heal yourself."
Cyrus still found the situation strange, but he had no time to think further because the eagles in the sky were already diving sharply downward.
One by one, they transformed into their human forms.
They carried no weapons, but their bird-like claws were already sharp enough to tear through flesh and split a person apart like an axe cutting wood.
"Protect the settlement!" Luan shouted immediately.
The warriors of the Vixeria Tribe quickly spread out across the area, raising their weapons as the eagle beastmen crashed down from the sky.
Boom! Boom!
Dust scattered everywhere the moment more eagle beastmen landed heavily on the ground.
One of them lunged straight toward Roxanna with his claws aimed at her throat.
But before he could even touch her—
Slash!
Azul had shot an arrow directly through the beastman’s eye. The body collapsed onto the dirt without even getting the chance to scream.
"Get her out of here!" Cyrus gently pushed Roxanna toward Azul. Without wasting another second, Azul immediately grabbed her and carried her away.
"We can’t follow Calen and the others!" Roxanna quickly reminded him while struggling slightly on his shoulder. "They’ll be in danger if we lead the enemies there later!"
"I know!" Azul shouted back while running as fast as he could with Roxanna over his shoulder. "That’s why we’re heading somewhere else! We need a better place to shoot the poisoned arrows from!"
Roxanna quickly grabbed onto Azul’s shoulder to stop herself from falling while he ran through the settlement at full speed.
Behind them, loud screeches and the sounds of fighting continued to echo across the battlefield.
"Left!" Roxanna suddenly shouted after spotting two eagle beastmen diving toward them from above.
Azul immediately changed direction.
Boom!
The eagle beastmen crashed heavily into the ground where they had been just seconds earlier, sending dirt and broken stones flying into the air.
"Those crazy birds really won’t stop chasing us!" Roxanna complained.
"Well, you are the leader’s tribe, my wife," Azul replied while continuing to run. "And apparently everyone wants to kidnap or kill you these days."
"That’s not comforting at all!"
Azul laughed briefly despite the dangerous situation, and then his expression suddenly turned serious again.
"We’re almost there."
Ahead of them stood one of the taller storage huts near the edge of the settlement.
Unlike the others, this hut was built beside a large rock cliff, making it easier to defend from surprise attacks.
Azul quickly climbed onto the roof while still carrying Roxanna.
The moment they reached the top, Roxanna immediately understood his plan.
From there, they could clearly see almost the entire battlefield, and more importantly, it was the perfect spot for long-range attacks.
"Just like I thought, this hut will be very useful for us," Azul said while passing the poison vial to Roxanna.
Meanwhile, Roxanna didn’t reply, but her cheeks turned slightly red.
It wasn’t without reason, but because some of the huts—including this one—had been built so they could mate properly anywhere.
Some of the huts were still being built, but this one had been finished a long time ago. In fact, Roxanna had even used this hut together with Azul before.
"W-We need to focus on saving the tribe first!" Roxanna quickly said out loud, trying to hide her embarrassment.
Azul let out a soft laugh. "Of course, wife."
He placed his spear beside him before switching to a bow and arrows instead. Since they were positioned far from the battlefield, long-range attacks were much more useful.
"Do you think Cyrus also has a strong healing ability like you?" Azul asked while calmly firing two arrows toward the eagle beastmen who had tried to block their path earlier.
Roxanna blinked for a moment after hearing the question.
"I’m not really sure," she admitted. "His healing ability seems normal. It’s not as fast as when I use my blood on his wounds."
[Cyrus also seems to know nothing about this.] Roxanna let out a soft sigh before raising her magical bow and aiming toward the eagles flying above them.
[Hah... if only I could use this magical bow to finish my previous mission too.]
Roxanna narrowed her eyes and pulled the bowstring back slowly.
The glowing arrow formed almost instantly in her hand. Below them, several eagle beastmen were still attacking the warriors near the center of the settlement.
One of them suddenly grabbed a Vixeria warrior by the throat and lifted him into the air.
Roxanna immediately released the arrow.
Woosh!
The glowing arrow shot across the battlefield at terrifying speed and pierced straight through the eagle beastman’s shoulder.
"Aaagh!"
The enemy screamed in pain and lost his grip immediately. The Vixeria warrior quickly stumbled away before another warrior dragged him to safety.
"I think only their leader can make use of Cyrus’s blood," Azul said seriously. "None of them are able to resist the effects of the poison I made."
Roxanna fell silent for a moment after hearing that, then she slowly spoke, "Or maybe... he simply doesn’t want to share Cyrus’s precious blood with his underlings or slaves."
