Chapter 380: Future Emperor
Chapter 380: Future Emperor
His father’s body needed time to recover.
He himself also needed time to prepare for the destruction of the Nine Abyssal Gate and to uncover proof of his identity as the Imperator Jin.
The final battle was not far away.
Yue Mingxuan understood this very clearly.
"I am not comfortable leaving Dongyue in anyone else’s hands."
The emperor gave a bitter smile.
"But if I leave it to you, I can feel much more at ease."
"My body truly cannot hold on for much longer. Rather than keeping this throne, I might as well pass it on to you."
"But a Ger becoming emperor..."
Yue Mingxuan hesitated.
"You possesses more talent than any of your brothers."
The emperor sighed.
The fact that his sons had failed to distinguish themselves was undeniable.
"Perhaps my brothers still..."
"I have already made my decision. There is no need to persuade me further."
The emperor shook his head.
"My Mingxuan, I leave him to you."
He looked at Shang Qinghua with an unusually calm gaze.
Shang Qinghua was not unfamiliar with such a look.
He simply bowed respectfully to the emperor and said, "I will take good care of Mingxuan."
Yue Mingxuan remained silent.
His father’s words sounded far too much like a final farewell, and that feeling left him deeply uneasy.
Could it be that the people of the Nine Abyssal Gate had done something to his father?
He could not understand it.
His father’s condition clearly seemed recoverable with proper treatment.
What was it that his father had already accepted?
Surely this father could not be another impostor.
If he were, then where was the real emperor?
Yue Mingxuan could not make sense of it for the moment.
He simply instructed Xie Yunlan to escort his father out of the palace and find a better environment where he could properly recover.
"I never expected your identity to be that of the Imperator Jin."
Shang Qinghua smiled as he pulled Yue Mingxuan into his embrace.
"I always felt you were far from ordinary."
"Oh, stop it. How could you possibly have known something like that?"
Yue Mingxuan spoke with playful annoyance.
This revelation was undoubtedly an enormous surprise to him.
He had never imagined that he might actually be the Imperator Jin.
"What we need to do now is stop the Nine Abyssal Gate."
Shang Qinghua stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Twenty years ago, the Imperator Jin disappeared because of the Nine Abyssal Gate. Your identity became shrouded in mystery because of that incident as well."
"So if I want to prove my identity now, I have no choice but to turn the Nine Abyssal Gate upside down?"
Yue Mingxuan laughed.
His eyes, however, had already begun to shine with determination.
"Actually, this matter cannot be rushed. Furthermore, the Nine Abyssal Gate not only took away a large number of The Black Archon’s elite members back then, but also took many of The Black Archon’s records and documents. I do not know exactly how many of those records they took, nor how important they are."
"Can’t we just take them back?" Yue Mingxuan asked.
"If The Black Archon pressures them too aggressively, the Nine Abyssal Gate will destroy those records."
Shang Qinghua sighed.
This was precisely the concern that had troubled him all these years.
Those records were extremely important to The Black Archon. In the past, The Black Archon had once been a prosperous nation, yet for some unknown reason it had gradually declined.
The answers to that mystery might very well be hidden within those records.
"This matter cannot be rushed. We need time to plan carefully."
Yue Mingxuan nodded.
The Black Archon was indeed an extremely mysterious organization.
If the matter involved The Black Archon, then haste was certainly not an option.
Besides, both he and Shang Qinghua had already waited for so long.
There was no need to rush things now.
"During this period, you should stop coming to see me. I will handle Dongyue’s affairs properly."
"I just finished stabilizing Nanxie, so I finally have time to stay with you."
Shang Qinghua smiled happily.
He had not seen Yue Mingxuan for a very long time.
Now that they had finally reunited, how could he possibly let Yue Mingxuan slip away so easily?
"I... I said you do not need to come looking for me..."
"That is impossible."
Shang Qinghua’s refusal was immediate and unmistakable.
Yue Mingxuan sighed.
Why was Shang Qinghua always so unwilling to listen to reason?
"I will miss you very much."
Shang Qinghua stepped closer and wrapped his arms around Yue Mingxuan.
Yue Mingxuan lowered his head but did not argue.
It was not that he did not want Shang Qinghua by his side.
It was simply that there were too many matters demanding his attention recently, and he needed time to deal with them properly.
"I..."
"I will help you."
Shang Qinghua’s tone remained calm and steady.
Then he carried Yue Mingxuan onto the bed and added, "For now, stop thinking about those problems."
"Then what am I supposed to do?"
"Stay with me."
The tone left no room for negotiation.
Yue Mingxuan sighed.
He truly had no way to deal with Shang Qinghua, so in the end he could only do as Shang Qinghua wished.
After all, it was not as though he disliked him.
The days he spent with Shang Qinghua were among the happiest moments of his life.
The next morning, when Yue Mingxuan woke up, the first thing he saw was still Shang Qinghua’s face.
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
He carefully climbed out of bed and immediately went off to deal with the chaos he had created the previous day.
The real emperor had been rescued by him.
The fake emperor was now desperately searching for the real one.
Naturally, Yue Mingxuan had no intention of giving the impostor even the slightest opportunity to find his true father.
As a result, he spent the entire day staying close to the fake emperor’s side.
