Chapter 284 – House
Chapter 284 – House
We reached the market while walking, even though none of us seemed interested in looking at the stalls. When Aren was done talking, I gave him a supportive smile while extending my hand toward his head.“You’re doing well, Aren. Continue to work hard, and you’ll become great in the future.”
My hand caressing his soft fur startled him. He pushed it away shyly.
“I’m not a child…”
“Hey! What are you doing?”
His sister’s reaction was a lot stronger. She already had her fangs and claws half out, looking quite violent.
“What’s wrong, Erin? Do you want some too?”
I approached my hand to her head suggestively.
“Touch me, and you’re dead.”
Her claws were now fully out as she readied herself to pounce on me.
“Why so prickly? You know I don’t have any bad intentions. How are you going to interact with people and customers later on if you’re so sensitive to everything?”
That made her pause, but only for a second.
“I can handle myself just fine. Just don’t try to do anything weird.”
“Then, maybe Orun…”
“Grrrr.”
“Don’t fight, you two.”
Aren had to stop her from going for me as I snickered. She was so easy to tease. At that moment, Orun yawned, stopping us in our fun.
“Ah… Are you tired, my treasure?”
“Hmm…”
Erin's attitude made a full 180 when facing her little brother. We sat on some public seats around the market to feed him dinner, the siblings eating together at the same time. Once we were done, we walked to the inn, where we separated for the day.
This schedule became my routine for the next couple of weeks. It was only broken by the news that my house was fully built. At that point, I decided to leave the shop to my employees since they were now used to it, and redirect my efforts to other endeavors.
First was to visit the finished house. I teleported to the bunnies’ village a second time in the afternoon, for a final meeting with the architect and masons. They showed me the completed building, their faces full of pride.
“Since we didn’t have a limit on the budget, we went all out. It’s been a while since I’ve been so satisfied with the result. Come, please look for yourself.”
This was the advantage of being sponsored by Geola’s city hall. Still, I couldn’t go overboard either. Not because of budget limitations, but because I didn’t want the house to stand out too much compared to the other ones in the village. Fortunately, bunnies tended to build large accommodations, and mine was no different.
It had two floors, a vegetable garden, an annex building for horses and carriages, and a few fruit trees that had been planted for the future. Inside, most of it was a mix of wooden floor and stone walls of the best quality, with two bathrooms, eight bedrooms, a large kitchen, two living rooms, and a few storage rooms. The style was similar to the other houses in the village, with dark colors and a functional design. It was more like a small mansion than a simple house, and I was very pleased with the result.
“This is great. You did an amazing job.”
“Thank you. If you’re happy with the result, we’ll clean everything before leaving.”
“Do you even take care of something like this?”
“Yes. And if you have any issues in the house, please be sure to ask for our services again.”
“I’ll do that.”
The many workers did as she said, leaving a spotless house before moving back to Geola for their next contract. The Vejas hadn’t scammed me with this deal. They had truly chosen the best people for the task.
As I exited the house. I noticed a few curious villagers were already watching, including Kuini. I chatted with them a little, telling them that the house was done now. After a round of congratulations and welcome, Kuini told me she had something she wanted to discuss with me. Seeing she didn’t want to talk in front of the other villagers, I invited her inside the house.
“It feels very large and empty…”
“Yes, I’ll need to spend some time furnishing it. I’ll be better after that. So, what did you want to talk about?”
“That is… about this house…”
She didn’t immediately continue, and I waited for her to organize her thoughts.
“Can I ask for a favor, my Lord?”
“A favor? What is it?”
She took a big breath before responding.
“Can I… work here?”
“Work here? What do you mean?”
“I mean, work to take care of the house. It’s a large house. Someone needs to clean it, maintain it, cook the meals, and so on. Can I do that, my Lord?”
There was a mix of anxiety and anticipation in her gaze. Her demand took me a little by surprise, even though it wasn’t completely unexpected, thinking about it. I kind of remembered she had told me that household chores were her hobby.
“Hmm… Why would you want to do that? Don’t you already work the fields with your brothers?”
She shook her head.
“I don’t enjoy working in the fields that much. I think I’ll be a lot happier if I could work in your house. I don’t even need to be paid much. Just a little would be fine.”
She was waving her hands around, trying to persuade me. She looked a bit funny, so I chuckled.
“Oh, I see now. In other words, you want to stay close to me and have more opportunities for relief time together. I see, I see.”
“No! That wasn’t what I meant!”
“No?”
“Huh… Maybe a little, but… Ugh, please don’t tease me, my Lord.”
“Alright, alright. But you know, it won’t be that great. I might not use the house that much, so you’ll be alone most of the time. It probably won’t be that fun.”
“That’s fine. You’re a busy and great person, my Lord. That’s only normal.”
“You still haven’t let go of that idea?”
She turned her head away, avoiding my eyes per her habit. I knew she was impossible to convince when she was like that, so I didn’t bother trying.
“Well, if that’s what you want, I don’t see why not.
“Really?”
“Really. But what about your family? Do they know about this?”
She looked even further away.
“N-Not yet.”
