Chapter 351: Don’t you want this baby?
Meanwhile, at the hotel.
After sending the messages to Vangar and Vincent, Xarion returned to the room.
The moment he saw Rory sitting against the headboard, her complexion still pale and fragile, he pressed his lips tightly together and walked over.
Dropping to one knee beside the bed, he lowered his head.
"Female Master, I’m sorry..."
His voice was thick with guilt.
"This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have let my jealousy get the better of me and caused a scene."
His eyes were filled with self-reproach.
"If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have been sick enough to throw up like that."
After the doctor’s treatment, Rory was already feeling much better. Hearing his words, she reached out and pulled him to his feet.
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Her tone was gentle but firm.
"This has nothing to do with you. Lian already examined me."
She squeezed his hand reassuringly.
"He said this is a normal pregnancy reaction. Every female carrying a baby can experience morning sickness."
Holding Xarion’s hand, she looked at him seriously.
"You don’t need to blame yourself. I know you weren’t really throwing a tantrum."
Xarion had only been trying to gain a little extra attention.
He had never truly lost his temper with her.
That much, Rory understood.
Even after hearing her explanation, Xarion still looked guilty.
"Female Master, I won’t do that again. I promise."
Before Rory could respond, the door to the room suddenly flew open.
Vincent strode in from outside.
"Rory!"
The moment he saw her sitting on the bed, pale and weak, his heart felt as though an invisible hand had seized it and squeezed with merciless force.
The pain nearly stole his breath.
Crossing the room in a few hurried steps, he dropped heavily to his knees beside the bed.
"Rory, I’m sorry..."
His voice trembled with guilt.
"This is all my fault. I forgot about the blood exchange. I forgot everything that happened during my Nirvana. I stole you away from home, and now you’re carrying my child."
His eyes reddened.
"Punish me."
The more he thought about everything he had done, especially the fact that she was now pregnant because of him and suffering because of it, the more he wanted to tear himself apart.
Rory stared at him in surprise.
"You remember everything now?"
Vincent nodded guiltily.
"I remember all of it."
Rory looked at the feather mark between his brows.
Every trace of black had vanished. Only brilliant crimson remained.
"So it’s finally back to normal."
A smile flickered across her face. At last, Vincent had fully recovered.
Seeing that he was still kneeling on the floor, she reached out and tugged at him.
He did not move.
Rory blinked. She simply did not have enough strength at the moment to pull him up.
Couldn’t he at least cooperate?
"Vincent, get up please."
This time she had to say it aloud.
Vincent remained where he was.
"Rory, let me stay like this."
His voice was low and hoarse.
"If I kneel here, maybe I’ll feel a little better."
He tightened his grip on her hand and looked at her with undisguised concern.
"Xarion told me how badly you’ve been vomiting..."
His voice caught.
"Rory... let’s not keep this baby, alright?"
The moment he learned how much she was suffering, he had made his decision.
The child was still only a few days old.
Ending the pregnancy now would spare her further pain and would not harm her body.
He could live his entire life without children.
What he could not bear was watching Rory suffer because of him again.
Rory stared at him in shock.
"You... what did you just say?"
Her eyes widened.
"You don’t want this baby?"
Meeting her stunned gaze, Vincent forced down the agony slicing through his chest and nodded firmly.
"That’s right."
His voice was steady despite the pain.
"Rory, I don’t want this baby."
"Why?"
Confusion filled her eyes as she looked at him.
Rory remembered Lola mentioning once that Vincent adored children.
Before they had become mates, whenever he was in the Firebird Clan, he would often spend time visiting the newly hatched younglings.
Vincent took a deep breath and explained.
"Because if we keep the baby, I’ll have to spend time incubating him."
His gaze lifted to meet hers, burning with an intensity that bordered on obsession.
"If that happens, I won’t be able to stay by your side every second of every day."
He looked at Rory as though she were the only thing in existence that mattered.
"Rory, I don’t want to be apart from you. Not for a minute. Not for a second."
His voice grew softer.
"So let’s not keep him, alright?"
He knew Rory too well.
If he told her the truth, that he wanted to end the pregnancy because he couldn’t bear to watch her suffer through the vomiting and discomfort, she would never agree.
So he needed a selfish reason.
A reason she couldn’t easily argue with.
A reason that placed all the blame squarely on himself.
"Rory, I truly don’t want this baby."
His fingers tightened around hers.
"I don’t want to be separated from you, and I haven’t prepared myself to be a father."
His voice carried an almost pleading desperation.
"Please. Let’s not have this baby, okay?"
A conflicted expression appeared on Rory’s face.
She looked at him, lightly biting her lower lip before speaking in a quiet voice.
"But Vincent... I’ve already decided to keep him."
Vincent stared at her in stunned disbelief.
"Rory... you... don’t dislike children?"
"I never said I disliked children."
Rory shook her head.
"I admit that in the past, I didn’t want any."
A faint smile touched her lips.
"That’s because I thought having a baby meant I’d have to watch over them every moment of every day."
The mere memory made her laugh softly.
"The thought of a whole group of little ones chattering around me nonstop was enough to give me a headache."
As she spoke, her thoughts drifted to Terry, and her voice unconsciously softened.
"But after Terry came along, Yuel was the one who took care of him most of the time. My life honestly didn’t change very much."
Warm affection filled her eyes.
"So... I’m not against having children anymore."
She lowered her hand to her abdomen.
"This is our child."
Her voice was gentle but unwavering.
"I can’t just erase his existence because it’s inconvenient."
Hearing her firmly state that she wanted to keep the baby, Vincent grew visibly anxious.
"But Rory, you’re suffering so much."
His brows knitted together.
"You’re vomiting constantly. Keeping this baby will make these next months miserable for you."
The moment she saw the panic in his eyes, Rory understood everything.
She looked at him quietly.
"So the real reason you don’t want the baby is because you’re worried about my morning sickness, isn’t it?"
"No..."
Vincent attempted to deny it.
Unfortunately, Rory had already seen through him.
"Stop trying to argue."
She laughed softly and reached out to pinch his cheek.
"I already know."
Her eyes curved with amusement.
"If it’s only because of the morning sickness, then you don’t need to worry."
Vincent froze.
"What do you mean?"
Rory explained patiently.
"Lian said he has a way to transfer my pregnancy symptoms to the baby’s father."
"Really?"
Vincent immediately looked skeptical.
"Rory, don’t lie to me."
Rory rolled her eyes.
"Why would I joke about something like that?"
She placed a hand over her stomach.
"I’m very concerned about my health, thank you very much."
"If you don’t believe me, ask Xarion. He heard it too."
She pointed toward him.
"And if that’s still not enough, we can call Lian over right now and ask him ourselves."
Being suddenly named, Xarion immediately nodded.
"Female Master is telling the truth."
He folded his arms and glanced at Vincent.
"Lian did say it could be done."
Then he casually added another sentence.
"Although he also said that after the symptoms are transferred to the baby’s father, the suffering will be doubled."
The second part was entirely his own invention.
In reality, the symptoms would not become any worse.
Vincent, however, had no way of knowing that.
His eyes lit up instantly.
He grabbed Rory’s hands, excitement flooding his expression.
"Really?"
His voice trembled.
"As long as you don’t have to suffer, I’ll accept anything."
His gaze was unwavering.
"Even if the pain doubles, it doesn’t matter."
Even if it increased tenfold, he would still willingly endure it.
The entire room fell silent for a moment.
Then Vangar, who had been standing quietly by the doorway all this time, finally spoke.
"In that case, I’ll go get Lian right now."
His gaze lingered on Rory’s pale face, and his heart tightened painfully.
"The sooner he transfers the symptoms to Vincent, the sooner Female Master can recover."
Watching her look so weak and drained was enough to make his chest ache.
