Chapter 347: Farm Daily Life 19
Flustered, Evelyn Ford quickly wiped his face. Ronan Kendrick didn’t move an inch, just watched her intently.
"Ronan Kendrick, why do you always say such startling things?"
"Hmm?" He still looked confused.
"Let’s get married, too. I really want to marry you." He had always been direct, saying whatever was on his mind. He just wanted Evelyn Ford to know he wanted to be with her—every hour of every day, every minute, every second.
Evelyn Ford almost burst out laughing. "Are you sure you want to be the one getting married *off* to me?"
"I’m sure." ’Besides, it’s not like there’s a rule in this world against a man being the one to marry off.’
"The one who gets married off has to wear a dress. Are you willing to do that?"
For a moment, Ronan Kendrick was dumbfounded. "A dress? But I’m a man."
He thought for a few seconds before saying in a low voice, "If I’m only wearing it for you, that’s fine. But no one else can see. I might get the urge to kill them."
Evelyn Ford hid a smile. ’The truth is, Ronan has already worn wigs and makeup for me before, all thanks to my wicked little schemes. It’s his own fault for being so beautiful; I can never resist teasing him.’
"I’m just teasing you. Of course I wouldn’t let anyone else see. As for the wedding, I’d like to have it in the spring, when it’s warm and the flowers are in bloom. It’s too cold right now. It wouldn’t feel special at all."
Ronan Kendrick raised an eyebrow. "You’re not tricking me?"
"Of course not. When have I ever tricked you?" ’Is my credibility really that bad?’
"Fine, then. I guess I can wait a little longer."
Though he sounded reluctant, his eyes were brimming with unconcealable joy.
The moment Evelyn Ford turned her back, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Miles Vaughn and Joelle Finch’s wedding took place at five in the afternoon. From morning until the ceremony, everyone had been bustling about in cheerful preparation.
Evelyn Ford rummaged through her dimensional space and eventually found some red balloons.
She and Wyatt Vaughn blew them up and decorated the newlyweds’ cabin. The splash of red instantly made everything feel more festive.
Of course, no wedding would be complete without the red "double happiness" character. Evelyn Ford wrote out quite a few, posting them everywhere from the main cabin to the greenhouse and the livestock pens. Even the farm’s two dogs had red silk rosettes tied to them.
They had slaughtered a sheep, two chickens, two ducks, and two rabbits for the occasion, preparing ten different dishes to symbolize perfection.
The wedding may have been simple, but it was full of life, and everyone had dressed in their newest, cleanest clothes.
Taylor Vance, acting as the officiant, had even written a long congratulatory speech. As he read it from the makeshift stage, everyone in the audience was moved to tears.
Well, everyone except Ronan Kendrick.
In his eyes, there was only food and Evelyn Ford, with no room for anything else.
"Even though this land has become scarred and broken, the world is still home to the purest and most sincere affection."
This was Taylor Vance’s closing remark and his blessing for the new couple.
"My parents would be so happy. I finally have a sister-in-law, even if she’s younger than me." Wyatt Vaughn was crying one moment and laughing the next, leaving the little Zoe Hughes in her arms looking completely bewildered.
"Finally, we can eat! Thanks to Miles Vaughn, we’re actually getting a ten-course meal. I’ll remember this day forever." Quincy was as glib as ever.
"So, are you guys watching TV tonight? If not, I’ll just clock out early."
"Of course we are! Miles Vaughn is getting married, not us. What else are we going to do? Everyone, stay and watch TV tonight. And no one is to disturb Miles Vaughn and Joelle Finch." As soon as Aunt Crane said this, everyone burst into laughter.
Only Miles Vaughn and Joelle Finch were left flustered with embarrassment.
After the wedding, everyone celebrated for a little while longer. But as it was too cold, they all headed to the screening room to watch TV.
Evelyn Ford and Ronan Kendrick sat in the back, whispering to each other from time to time.
It truly was an auspicious day. The heavy snow, which had been falling for three months, suddenly stopped. In the afternoon, the dense fog lifted, and the night sky revealed a full moon for the first time in ages.
How wonderful. Round and full, a perfect union.
When the movie ended, Ronan Kendrick carried Evelyn Ford home on his back. Beneath the moonlight, their shadows stretched long across the snow.
"Evelyn, when do you think spring will come?"
Evelyn Ford smiled. She knew he was thinking about their wedding, so she decided to tease him.
"I don’t know. After the snow melts, I suppose? Do you have something important to do in the spring?"
Ronan Kendrick sounded incredulous. "You forgot?"
"Do I have a date with spring or something?"
"Of course not. You have a date with *me*." Ronan Kendrick sounded a little serious now. "How could you forget something so important? Think hard."
Evelyn Ford hid a chuckle. "I really can’t remember. Why don’t you remind me?"
"When it’s warm and the flowers are in bloom, what are we supposed to do?"
"Wait for summer, of course."
Ronan Kendrick was about to explode, but he didn’t dare show it and could only fume in silence.
"Are you drunk?" he asked, not ready to give up.
"Nope, I’m perfectly sober. Let’s go home, let’s go home. I’m cold. I want to go to sleep."
Ronan Kendrick wanted to leave her out in the cold wind to jog her memory, but he was afraid she’d freeze, so he just carried her back, sulking the whole way.
Evelyn Ford hummed to herself as she took a hot bath. When she was getting ready for bed, Ronan Kendrick was still sulking.
"I’m planning to plant a lot of flowers," she said.
"Mm."
"What kind of flowers do you like?"
"Don’t know."
"What do you think about using them to decorate for a wedding?"
Ronan Kendrick froze, his gaze burning as he stared at Evelyn Ford.
"I actually quite like sunflowers," he said, and then cracked a small smile.
Evelyn Ford nodded with a straight face. "Just sunflowers? In that case, we’ll just serve sunflower seeds at our wedding. We can let everyone crack seeds the entire time."
"Wouldn’t that be a little stingy?" Ronan Kendrick asked tentatively.
"Of course, sunflower seeds are good too," he quickly added.
Evelyn Ford couldn’t hold back any longer and threw herself into his arms, roaring with laughter.
"If we just give them sunflower seeds, I bet Quincy would be the first to have an aneurysm. He’s the one who expects a ten-course meal."
"Do you have a better idea?" Ronan Kendrick’s eyes lit up. ’He really was so easy to please, and so easy to tease.’
Evelyn Ford ruffled his hair. "Of course. My wedding to Ronan Kendrick can’t be some simple affair. It has to be grand. There must be fireworks, firecrackers, and your favorite sunflowers."
Ronan Kendrick’s ears turned a little red. "None of that is important. What’s important is what you like."
Evelyn Ford looked up at him. ’She really did love Ronan Kendrick so much. Meeting him was like a stream of cool, sweet spring water pouring into her withered life.’
If someone were to ask Evelyn Ford when she first started to fall for him...
...she would say it was during the meteor shower at Broken Cloud Mountain.
It was the moment he’d hoisted her onto his back and fled for his life without a second thought. In Evelyn Ford’s heart, he stopped being an enemy.
He became Ronan Kendrick.
"Ronan, when did you start to like me?"
Ronan Kendrick was silent for a long time upon hearing her question.
"Did you forget? Or can you just not remember?"
"I haven’t forgotten. The first time I saw you, in the cave... your scent let me know you were there. Believe it or not, from that moment on, I really liked you."
Evelyn Ford crossed her arms. "That early, huh? So a certain someone fell for me at first sight."
"Mm-hm," he admitted without hesitation.
Even with her thick skin, Evelyn Ford felt a little shy now. She feigned composure with a small cough.
"That’s only natural. After all, I was the only other living person in those mountains."
