Chapter 806 - 805:
Chapter 806 - 805:
"Ethan!"
Serena Sullivan’s heart suddenly grew uneasy. She’d asked him that question, and Ethan Grant was still silent; it had to be something to do with her.
What could it be, related to her, that would make Ethan go see Felicity Sterling!
"Has she hurt me before?"
Serena probed.
Only something like that would make Ethan keep it from her and everyone else, and go see Felicity in secret.
Hearing Serena guess right, Ethan’s dark eyes grew even deeper. He looked at Serena tenderly. "How is my Serena this smart?"
His tone was filled with indulgence. He lowered his head slightly, his gaze falling on Serena’s legs.
Every time he looked at those legs, Ethan’s heart clenched in pain.
He hated himself, and he also hated that hit‑and‑run driver who’d left Serena like this.
"Is it about the car accident four years ago?"
Serena found the answer in the grief in Ethan’s eyes.
"Impossible. Felicity wouldn’t know that driver."
Serena said. She didn’t really believe Felicity would hate her that much.
Four years ago, she didn’t know her own parentage, and she had never even set foot in the Imperial Capital.
"For now there’s no evidence proving the accident has anything to do with her."
Ethan thought back to the private room just now, to the change in Felicity’s eyes when he brought up Serena’s accident.
If there was no connection, especially when the driver showed up, Felicity’s reaction had been far too extreme.
"But the hit‑and‑run driver and she are..."
"What?" Serena remembered that the driver was an orphan, never married, no children, and no relatives or friends.
What relationship could Felicity possibly have with him!
"Her biological father!"
Serena was stunned. This was a connection she hadn’t thought of; maybe even Simon Sterling and the others didn’t know.
"How could that be?"
She said in shock. As for Felicity’s background, all she knew was that June Kane had been raped, and that’s how Felicity came to be.
As for the man who raped June—who he was, how many years he served, where he went after he got out—no one had ever bothered to find out.
A petty nobody, a man who’d committed a great sin—who would care whether he lived or died? And since the Ford Family had concealed his identity at the time, later on even less anyone cared
who he was!
"I suspect it was Felicity who had him drive the car that hit you."
Ethan speculated.
"That’s only a suspicion!"
Serena frowned as she spoke. She and Felicity had originally been two parallel lines—or, from another angle, she had stolen Felicity’s life. Without her appearance, Felicity would still be the Sterling Family’s heiress.
"Like mother, like daughter."
Ethan said in a low voice.
"For now, let’s not tell Dad about this."
Serena thought for a moment, then said, "Whether she instigated someone to hit me, we should investigate."
"Right now the Ford Family probably won’t concern themselves with her anymore."
Bringing up the car accident four years ago, Serena very much wanted to get to the bottom of it.
If Felicity had arranged it, she still couldn’t just let it go.
No matter what reason Felicity had! Because she would forever remember that despair in the car, remember that pain carved into her bones.
"The Ford Family won’t interfere."
Ethan added.
His words puzzled Serena. Even though the Ford Family was no longer what it used to be, and June had gone to prison, in the end Felicity was still one of theirs.
"Felicity’s parentage was something Mrs. Kane revealed to me."
Ethan told Serena about running into Mrs. Kane at the hospital, and also about the miserable end of the Dowager Kane.
This was all karma; it’s not that retribution doesn’t come, only that the time had not yet arrived.
