Chapter 157 157: Controlling Genos
Chapter 157 157: Controlling Genos
"So it's true, a god-level disaster might return. Even if it's only a possibility, we need to raise our vigilance to the highest level." Sitch's expression grew heavy.
"On the other hand, even if a god-level disaster does occur, it probably won't be on an extremely large scale. So there's no need to worry too much about a lack of manpower." Shinji offered a reminder.
"Is that so? I hope you're right..." Sitch still looked uneasy.
...
"King, I remember your gaming skills are unmatched. Why don't you try controlling Genos?"
That day, Shinji suddenly had an idea and shared it with King.
Since Genos was a cyborg with an extremely high degree of modification, his whole body was mechanical except for his brain. So, in theory, with the right remote device, someone else could control him.
"Huh? You want me to control Genos? Is that even possible?" King had actually come today to retrieve a game he had previously lent to Saitama.
"Genos, why don't you ask Dr. Kuseno if he can create a controller, something like a gamepad, that would allow others to operate you?" Shinji suggested.
"Dr. Kuseno has mentioned to me before that this is technically feasible, but until now there was never a need for it." Genos replied, "If Master believes it would be better for me to be controlled by King, I can ask Dr. Kuseno to make a controller that connects to me remotely."
Since he had little understanding of King's gaming skills, he wasn't convinced that being controlled by him would yield better results. But because of his absolute trust in Shinji, he was willing to try.
"Then go ahead and give it a shot." Shinji nodded.
"Understood." Genos immediately set out to ask Dr. Kuseno to make the controller.
"Is this really okay? I'm just a shut-in who only knows how to play video games..."
Since no one else was around and Shinji already knew his secret, King could admit his weakness without hiding it.
"But your talent for games is unparalleled. With a controller like the ones you're used to, you might be able to push Genos's abilities to their absolute limit." Shinji smiled faintly.
Whenever King played a game he liked, he would dominate the rankings to an absurd degree. While second and third place players struggled to climb, King had already maxed out the score counter at "999999..."
That was what gave Shinji the idea, what would Genos be like under King's control...? Since he couldn't train Genos anyway, might as well make him stronger in some other way.
...
The next day.
Genos returned with a very complex-looking controller. Dr. Kuseno had crafted it according to his request, in the shape of a gamepad, but with far too many small buttons due to the sheer number of functions built into Genos's body.
"I feel... this controller still needs some adjustments. But for now, let's just test it out." The moment King held it, he immediately noticed its flaws.
"What kind of adjustments? If you tell me, I'll ask Dr. Kuseno to modify it after this." Genos asked him right away.
"There are too many little buttons, which must be because you've got too many built-in features, right?"
King explained, "I think we should take inspiration from games like Street Fighter. Only a fixed set of buttons, and by chaining them together you can trigger different moves. It makes the operation and reaction speed more demanding, but I'm pretty confident in my skills."
"I see... I'll remember that and tell Dr. Kuseno when I return." Genos nodded.
"For now, let's test it with this one. I've never tried controlling a real person with a gamepad before..." King was feeling the pressure.
He already had severe social anxiety, and the difference between moving characters in a game and controlling a living person in reality was enormous.
Especially since the one he was controlling was an S-Class hero known as the Demon Cyborg. If he didn't perform well, he might end up getting scolded...
"Alright, King, Genos, get used to each other first. I'll find someone to act as your opponent."
Shinji spoke calmly.
Then, without hesitation, he pulled in Vaccine Man and Boros.
The moment King, still fumbling with Genos's controls, saw them appear, his jaw nearly hit the ground. Shinji wanted him and Genos to face a Dragon-level monster and a God-level alien warlord?!
How were they supposed to win? Win your ass!
"Master... are our opponents really going to be Boros and Vaccine Man? Isn't this difficulty a bit much...?" Even Genos couldn't help but speak up.
"Relax. It's just practice, nothing serious. Just sparring, don't lose your cool."
Shinji explained. "If you can beat Vaccine Man, then you'll face Boros."
"Alright... I'll do my best..." King kept a calm face, but inside his nerves were wound tight.
"I understand..." Genos turned his head to King. "Then I'll leave it to you."
"No problem." King wore the look of a man with absolute confidence, though inwardly he was panicking.
"Let's go. I'll take you to a suitable battleground."
With the Flying Thunder God technique, Shinji teleported everyone to the place where the Ten-Tails had once fought Tatsumaki.
The scars of that battle were still clearly visible.
"Vaccine Man, you go first. Remember, hold back at the right moment." Shinji reminded him.
Vaccine Man nodded. "No problem. Just don't forget what you promised me."
To make Vaccine Man willingly act as Genos's long-term sparring partner, Shinji had agreed to buy him a decent gaming computer. That was the agreement.
"Don't worry. I won't forget." Shinji replied casually.
"Heh! Then come on, attack me directly." Vaccine Man beckoned to King and Genos.
At that moment, control of Genos's body had been completely handed over to King. Unless King severed the connection himself or the controller was destroyed, Genos couldn't move on his own.
This setup eliminated any risk of coordination errors between them.
King immediately began controlling Genos. His hands moved so fast they were almost a blur, stringing together countless combos in the blink of an eye. The flow was seamless, smooth, and relentless.
"...!"
Feeling his body moving like that, even Genos himself was shocked.
If it were him in control, he doubted he could ever pull off such high-level combos.
