Chapter 143: FRIDA - 143
Chapter 143: FRIDA - 143
Frida’s pov:
She scoffed as she went to prepare water to wash her master’s feet.
His words rang like a bell in her memory." Every servant or maid who has served me, has died tragically, who knows...you could be next."
"As if that would scare her away?" she thought scoffing at his audacity, she tried to navigate her way through the hallway.
It was dark until she reached an open door when the sun was shining down with burning fury.
Perhaps the sun did not like him either.
Great, her new master might as well be a monster.
She still had no idea what type of person he was, but from their one minute conversation, he was anything but nice.
She sighed as she spotted another maid "Hi I..."
The girl scurried away before she finished speaking "Oh okay...that was not weird at all."
It was not the moment for sarcasm but after the third maid ran off without listening to her she had a feeling she was ostracized.
In the garden there was a beautiful woman in a barren garden, she was about her age.
The woman was watering flowers when she turned her crystal blue eyes towards her and her breath hitched.
Water was pouring away from her watering can and she was staring at her like an alien.
"You won’t run away?" she asked, gasping in shock while tucking her blonde lock of stray hair back into her scarf.
Her blue eyes shone with curiosity "No. Everyone is running away from me too."
The woman’s golden hair flickered in the wind with her scarf, her peach colored lips and cheeks brightened and she grinned so wide that it made her nervous to even look at her.
"I can’t believe I have a friend!" the woman exclaimed and she just stared at her in awe as she ran to her and hugged her.
"My name is Mary and you?" she asked in excitement.
"Frida." she said breathlessly.
"You are so beautiful Frida, your eyes are like midnight surrounded by melted brown darkness, with long dark lashes. It’s incredible and you have ink hair I would die for."
Mary complimented her, she had to laugh "Now, now you know anyone would envy such fair hair."
"Well I guess so, I hate it...that’s why my mother locks me up in here. My brother treats me like a stranger, he doesn’t talk to me or look at me." Mary sighed. "I have a whole family but it’s like they abandoned us here...like forgotten children."
Her words were so sad and heavy. "Well you have me now, we can be best of friends."
Mary’s eyes watered with excitement, a big smile on her face "Yes."
"What are you holding a bowl for?" she blinked big blue eyes at her
"Oh my master would like his feet washed." her shoulders slumped.
"My brother you mean?" she asked her with curiosity.
She could not believe this beautiful bright and sunny Mary was related to that dark brooding creature.
"Your brother?" she asked Mary confused.
"Yes Marcus, the big scary guy who lives in that dark house." she grinned with her perfect shining dentals on display.
"Woah he’s so scary and you are so sunny."
"Yeah, but you are so lucky you get to see my brother, he never ever lets me see him." she sulked, his sunny face turned a bit moody. "I’m not even sure he knows they are trying to marry me off to some fifty year old official." Mary bit her lip and she felt sorry for her.
"I’m so sorry about that, lady Mary." She apologized.
Mary shook her full head of golden curls "Don’t worry, follow me let me take you to the kitchen."
Just then a woman dressed in formal expensive attire, walked into the sunny house.
Mary bowed her head and she immediately took the hint "Mother." she greeted
"Mary. I can hear your voice all the way from my chambers, what did I say about speaking?" she asked in a tight and harsh tone.
"A woman should learn to be silent, and almost never speak. It’s for her own good." Mary recited like she had said it a million times.
She stood next to Mary, swallowing the anger the words she spoke caused.
"Good, if a woman wants to live long she must live in silence." her mother said.
The woman turned her sharp gaze to her "You must be the new maid assigned to Lord Marcus quarters so I’ll assume you do not know." Her voice dropped a pitch "No one is allowed to speak or associate with Mary, she is destined for a noble marriage and interacting with low bred humans like yourself will infect her character, if you are caught again you will be punished, are we clear?"
She nodded, "Yes, my lady."
As her mother turned to leave she continued to scold her "I’ve tried my best to train you well, if you want a good life. You will honor yourself and see yourself above the lot you associate with and segregate yourself."
She turned to Mary and whispered behind the lady "There is a world where women are a bit free, to make their own choices and live their own lives. If I have the power, I’ll take you with me back to that world. I promise."
Mary listened to her words and her heart swelled, her eyes teared up as she waved her goodbye like she had known her for centuries.
The lady halted and turned to face her as soon as they were out of Mary’s house "Listen here, keep that your pretty face and bickering mouth away from my daughter or I will sell you off for a nice bundle of lace." she warned darkly and walked away.
She finally spotted a well and watched as other maids tossed a bucket in it and pulled water out of it.
Never in her life had she ever been subjected to such, even with her travels with the men.
They had bathed in streams or rivers.
They looked at her like she was infected and shifted away, fanning their faces like she smelled.
She rolled her eyes and went to the well to draw some water, as she tossed in the bucket. She looked into the well.
Suddenly she felt a force against her back, someone had pushed her and she fell into the well.
The water grabbed her immediately and she sank like a stone.
She felt someone pull her by the waist and her nostrils burned as she coughed up water.
She opened her eyes to see his worried gaze "Laz"
