Chapter 536 - 537: Time Machine? [2nd Update]
I wonder what the state of my body is now!
He was cultivating two major systems simultaneously! This was something Wu Tian had never anticipated, and it was his first attempt.
At this moment, his Spiritual Sense entered his body for an internal inspection, carefully observing the situation within. However, when his Spiritual Sense once again entered his Dantian Zifu, what he saw surprised him. The Dantian Zifu was something that had only come into existence after he had begun practicing Immortal Cultivation.
Is this... a living Pangu?
He saw that the Earth Spirit Root had transformed into a swirling chaos. Within that chaos, the Pangu Nascent Soul, its hand shaped like a blade, chopped endlessly, but it could not split the chaos.
This isn’t the real Pangu, and it has no Pangu Axe. How could it possibly split the chaos? But what if it could? What would happen if the Pangu Nascent Soul actually split the chaos? Could a new world be born inside my body?
Wu Tian felt a spark of excitement, eager to see what changes would occur within him once the Pangu Nascent Soul broke through the chaos of his Zifu.
"Dad, Dad, save me! I can’t do it! I can’t drink any more!" The river had already submerged the entire base. As the great river poured in, the little Kunpeng had used "Beiming," but it was still just a child and truly couldn’t drink another drop. It felt like it was going to throw up.
Wu Tian snapped back to reality. He walked over, scooped the little one into his arms, and placed the three small beasts on his shoulders. His body, enveloped in a protective light, was impervious to the water. He charged directly upward, bursting through the steel floor plates, which shattered one after another and turned to ash.
「On the beach of the Qinhuang River.」
Dragon Group special agents climbed onto the shore one by one, drenched to the bone, their faces etched with lingering fear. Even as superhumans, they had nearly been killed by the lightning strikes and the water that had suddenly flooded the base. They cleared the tourists from the beach and then gasped for breath, marveling at their narrow escape. To this moment, they still had no idea what had actually happened. How could the base have been struck by lightning out of the blue?
Just then, Wu Tian came ashore.
Zhan Long approached Wu Tian, deciding to take a chance. "Do you have any idea what just happened?" he asked.
To his surprise, Wu Tian replied directly, "Cultivating against the heavens invites a Heavenly Tribulation."
The little one and the three small beasts all nodded in agreement.
"So you’re saying... all of this was your doing?" Zhan Long was stunned. His expression then changed dramatically as he exclaimed in disbelief. For many years, as the Dragon King of the Dragon Group and the cream of the crop among special agents, this was the first time he had ever lost his composure so completely in front of others.
"Impossible!" The other Dragon Group members were equally incredulous. How could Wu Tian be powerful enough to attract a Heavenly Tribulation?
"I can’t be bothered to explain." Holding the little one, Wu Tian turned to leave. He needed to find professors specializing in mental and spatial studies to see if their recent flashes of inspiration had led to any new mental-type inventions.
"Wait a moment, Martial God! You need to give us an explanation for this!" Wei Long stepped forward, blocking Wu Tian’s path.
Wu Tian chuckled. Hadn’t he just made it perfectly clear? He was the one who had summoned the Heavenly Tribulation. What more did these Dragon Group members want him to explain? His cultivation methods? To share his experiences? Or did they believe he was lying and want him to reveal the "real" reason?
Wu Tian kicked out directly.
BANG!
Wei Long was sent flying, tumbling into the Qinhuang River.
"I’ve said what needed to be said," Wu Tian announced coldly. "If anyone else wants an explanation, they can go keep him company in the river!"
His decisive and intimidating manner silenced the entire crowd. No one from the Dragon Group dared to utter another word.
As the Phoenix grew in size, Wu Tian boarded it, carrying the little one and the beasts, and departed directly.
It took a long while for the members of the Dragon Group to recover. They looked dejected. They had always thought that being the Dragon Group made them like the secret police of the Great Ming era—an elite force that answered only to the nation’s leader and could disregard everyone else. Now, it seemed times had changed. This was the era of the Martial God. Those who were once arrogant would have to reconsider their place and learn when it was time to sheathe their swords.
「After leaving Longjing.」
Wu Tian headed to the northern part of the Dragon Country.
The North was a cold region, perpetually covered in snow and ice. It was most famous for the Dragon Country Seed Vault. People all over the world knew about the Global Seed Vault in the Arctic. Its purpose was to preserve seeds from all sorts of plants in an underground repository to prevent extinctions as global biodiversity declined. Few, however, knew that the Dragon Country had its own seed vault, guarded by numerous scientists.
Upon arriving in the North, Wu Tian’s first priority wasn’t the seed vault. He took the little one to eat, because she said she was hungry. For a doting father like him, nothing was more important than his daughter’s needs.
Northern cuisine featured a multitude of flavors in a single dish, with a clear distinction between salty and sweet. Famous dishes included sweet and sour pork, stir-fried hot peppers with dried tofu, braised pork bones, fried pork segments, and sliced pork belly with blood sausage. But the most common of all was dumplings. In the North, dumplings held a culinary status akin to rice noodle rolls and white-cut chicken in Yang City.
The North was also known for its baijiu, or white liquor. Due to the cold climate, people there had been drinking liquor to keep warm since ancient times, which led to the development of many famous local spirits. The baijiu Wu Tian was drinking today was a new variety, brewed with spiritually-infused water that had become available since the resurgence of Spiritual Energy.
He took a sip but still shook his head slightly. Others might find this liquor as sharp as a knife slicing down their throat, but Wu Tian felt nothing at all. Compared to the Immortal Wine from the Immortal Emperor Realm, or the brew the Yin and Yang Wine God had served him after he returned from breaking through the All Heavens, this Northern liquor was simply too ordinary.
"Daddy, I want some." Having finished her soft drink, the little one was not satisfied and now wanted to try the liquor.
"Absolutely not," Wu Tian refused sternly. "You’re just a child. Why would you be drinking alcohol?" No matter how much he doted on her, this was forbidden.
The little one looked heartbroken, her eyes welling up with tears as she gazed at him.
"It’s no use. You can stop with that expression," Wu Tian said indifferently.
"Humph!" the little one snorted.
Just as Wu Tian was about to lecture his willful child, he overheard a conversation from a nearby table. "Professor Li," one man said, "I heard the seed vault is expanding to accommodate a new invention. Why don’t we go take a look and see what it is?"
"Your field is medicine, and mine is biology," the man named Professor Li replied. "I’ve heard the object they’re putting in is quite profound and not within our areas of expertise. Professor Zheng, we should just stick to our own duties."
"Professor Li, you can’t think of it that way," Professor Zheng insisted. "Think about it. What usually goes into the seed vault? Why would the higher-ups suddenly approve a new invention to be put inside, preserved for all time? What could this thing possibly be to warrant such treatment? Aren’t you the least bit curious?"
Professor Zheng’s words swayed Professor Li. "I heard it’s a door, known colloquially as a ’time machine,’ though I don’t know if that’s true... Alright! Let’s go take a look!"
"Excellent! After you, Professor Li!"
"No, after you, Professor Zheng!"
