Chapter 754 Let's race
Chapter 754 Let's race
"Meh. He's nothing special. Just lucky enough to stumble into a minor Dao enlightenment in this world. I had one last month myself. Tch. If it had come a few days later, even I could've triggered this treasure land."
"Doesn't matter. What's the point? Dao treasures aren't that easy to use. They demand affinity. Without it, they're nothing but ornaments. My family has one passed down for generations, a water-aligned Dao treasure. Not a single person in our bloodline has water affinity. It's basically a glorified rock."
"Then sell it. The major factions are buying Dao treasures like mad right now. Something big is about to happen. They're pushing all their young elites to ascend as fast as possible."
"Oh? Since when? I've heard nothing about this."
"Mmhmm. Word is the Blessed Heavens have started releasing events everywhere. Back-to-back. And strangely… every single one revolves around the same thing."
"The same thing?"
"The Golden Throne."
A brief silence followed.
"Each event has a single victor," the guy continued, lowering his voice slightly. "And the winner receives a token. Our event is no different. The final reward is also a token."
"A token for what?"
"Rumor says… it's an entrance key. To an ancient world."
"How do you even know all this?"
The person grinned, a smug look spreading across his face. "Heh. I have a few informants in the Pleasure Palace."
"Bastard," another person snapped instantly, his expression turning cold. "What exactly are you so proud of? Did you think we didn't know?" the second person continued. "You're the one who sold your own sister to the Pleasure Palace."
The first person's expression twisted. "Watch your mouth."
"Oh? Or what?" the other stepped forward, eyes filled with disdain. "You think hiding behind your little connections will protect you? You're filth. Even among us." A flicker of killing intent spread between them.
"You two, how about we relax a little. Don't forget why we are here. We can talk about these things leisurely in the Thirsty Trap later. The first round is on me."
Not far away, Damon listened quietly. A few other groups were also chatting about other interesting things. It was very informative and entertaining to listen to them. The world he was living in was truly vast, but now was not the time to explore it.
He hurried his footsteps while continuing to keep his ears open. He arrived at the central plaza where many townsfolk had gathered. These were people of this world. The treasure could be anything here. How the hell was he supposed to find it out?
Damon thought about it for a moment and almost decided to give up on it when he suddenly saw a light shining at the top of a tall building. It only took a moment for him to make a decision. The treasure was without a doubt on top of that. He could feel a faint energy signature on it.
The next second he appeared right on top of the building. Coincidentally, another person appeared right in front of him. It was a blonde haired beastkin. The guy revealed a toothy grin as soon as he saw Damon. At the same time, his hand shot toward the gemstone embedded on the rooftop. However, just as he was about to grab it, another hand emerged from the gem's shadow and grabbed it.
Damon was faster.
"Good job, bloodsucker. You beat me fair and square there. I will let you have this one." The guy winked and disappeared before Damon could do anything about it. Not that he intended to.
Just like the beastkin Damon as well did not linger and teleported to the next spot. Damon had a feeling that this won't be the last time he saw this guy and in only a few minutes, his suspicion proved correct
The next location was a lake and when Damon arrived he saw a splash. The beastkin had already dove under water to get to the treasure. "Heh." Damon smirked. This time that guy had beat him to the treasure but the game was still not over.
Instead of diving in and searching for it, he directly manipulated the water element. Thanks to all the hunting his water element manipulation skills were not at all lacking. It only took him a couple seconds to make the other guy's life difficult and bring the treasure up.
The entire surface twisted like a whirlpool as Damon forcibly seized control of the surrounding water. Deep below the surface, the beastkin froze. "What the…" The pressure around him suddenly shifted. The water currents that had been calm moments ago began twisting violently around his body. The beastkin narrowed his golden eyes. "You again…"
Above the surface, Damon casually rotated his fingers. The water obeyed him. The entire lake spiraled upward like a giant funnel. Hidden deep beneath the water, the faint glow of the treasure became visible.
Damon's smirk widened. "There you are." With a sharp flick of his hand, the water surged upward. The glowing object shot out of the lake like a cannonball.
Damon caught it midair. A small crystalline sphere pulsed faintly in his palm. Treasure secured.
A second later, the water exploded upward again as the beastkin shot out of the lake like a missile. He landed on the shore with a loud splash, soaking wet from head to toe.
For a moment he simply stared at Damon. Then he burst out laughing. "Hahaha! You got both shadow and water? That's dirty!"
Damon shrugged calmly. The beastkin grinned again, clearly enjoying himself. "This is getting interesting."
Damon stored the crystal away without another word.
The beastkin tilted his head slightly. "You know… most people here would've run the moment they saw me. I have a feeling that you have no idea who I am or what I am."
Damon remained indifferent, not showing any expression on his face.
The beastkin did not seem to care. "Name's Kael." He pointed toward Damon. "And you're definitely not boring, bloodsucker. What say we have a private competition?"
Damon raised an eyebrow slightly.
"The person who gathers the most treasures before the event ends wins."
"And the loser?" Damon asked calmly.
Kael's eyes flashed with excitement. "The loser owes the winner a favor."
Damon was silent for a moment. Then he chuckled softly. "Sure."
Before Kael could respond, Damon vanished. A second later he reappeared hundreds of meters away, already moving toward the next treasure signal.
Kael stared at the empty spot where Damon had been standing. Then his grin slowly widened into something far more feral. "Oh this is going to be fun." With a powerful leap, he shot forward like a golden streak across the water.
