Chapter 477 - 378: Can’t Do Anything
Chapter 477 - 378: Can’t Do Anything
Understanding Shui’s state of mind, Wu Yue gave a few instructions before signaling for Qingcao to take her inside.
The next moment, as she stood by the door, she heard a female’s suppressed sobs from within and felt her heart ache.
She sighed and walked toward the pavilion.
The Snow Tiger Witch was talking with Yuan Lang and the others. When he saw Wu Yue approach, he pointed to an empty stool, motioning for her to sit.
"How is the little cub?"
Wu Yue pursed her lips. "His internal injuries are severe, but I’ve just managed to stabilize them with my witch power. Both of his arms and one of his legs were forcefully snapped."
The Snow Tiger Witch’s already deep eyes grew darker. "I know what you’re all thinking. But when it comes to the tribes of the Red Flame Plain, we can demand compensation, but we cannot punish them."
Wu Yue’s expression instantly turned grim. "They harmed a member of our tribe! If it weren’t for Chang Ye and the others, that little cub would probably be dead! And we still can’t do anything to them?"
The Snow Tiger Witch glanced at her and nodded firmly. "We cannot. To ensure the safety of our people when they attend trade gatherings, all participating tribes swore an oath before the Beast God. We pledged never to harm members of other tribes within our own territory."
"This wasn’t just for the sake of other tribes; it’s also to protect our own people from harm when they attend trade gatherings in other territories in the future."
Wu Yue fell silent. The oath was both a restraint and a form of protection.
’But the oath overlooked the conduct of the visiting tribes.’
Although indignant, Wu Yue knew she had no choice but to let it go...
Seeing the grim look on the young female’s face, Yuan Lang clenched his large hands. A different idea began to form in his mind.
The Yan Yan Tribe’s witch was indeed the epitome of hypocrisy. Not long after their conversation ended, her uniquely gentle voice floated in from the courtyard. "I wonder how that little cub and the slave who were injured today are doing?"
The surrounding Snow Tiger Tribe members glared at the group from the Yan Yan Tribe, the atmosphere thick with tension. The fury in their eyes looked ready to incinerate the detestable outsiders at any moment.
But the Yan Yan Tribe’s witch was clearly aware of the trade gathering’s pact. She strode in, brazen and unafraid, with a retinue of her Beastmen.
Upon seeing the Snow Tiger Witch, Wu Yue, and the others in the pavilion, a sad expression finally crossed her face. "I went to rest right after my midday meal. I truly never expected one of my people would go out and do such a thing."
She smoothed her hair, her expression ostensibly apologetic. "In our Yan Yan Tribe, the Beastman Warriors are the most venerated, second only to the witch and the Clan Leader. All Half beastmen and Pure Humans dare not even look them in the eye."
"He returned and told me that a little Pure Human cub actually rushed up and bumped his leg over a matter of salt, so he taught the brat a lesson."
"I just never imagined the Snow Tiger Tribe would place so much importance on a mere Pure Human cub."
Although the witch’s expression held a hint of apology, her words contained none whatsoever.
Furthermore, she was clearly implying that the little cub was beaten only because he had run into the Beastman first!
’How shameless!’
Wu Yue wanted nothing more than to leap up and give the witch a few "loving" slaps across the face, but remembering the Snow Tiger Witch’s words, she forced down her anger.
Gritting her teeth, she looked up and smiled. "Oh, so that’s what happened. Our people were so focused on carrying back the injured cub and the male that no one clearly explained the full story."
With that, her gaze fell upon the tall Beastman standing behind the Yan Yan Tribe’s witch. "Since it was our cub who ran into the Ghost Tribe’s Beastman Warrior, then he was also in the wrong. We will certainly punish him afterward."
"But..."
The smile in her eyes slowly faded. "I’m sure everyone here knows the combat strength of a cub. And he’s just a little Pure Human cub at that. Your Beastman Warrior was far too heavy-handed."
"And that slave who was injured belongs to me. He was in the middle of making a very important item for me—something I need for my Priest ceremony, and only he knows how to make it."
"Now that your Beastman Warrior has injured him, my progress has been delayed. I don’t know if the item can be finished before the Priest ceremony."
As she spoke, her face paled slightly, and she murmured, loud enough for everyone to hear, "But I made a promise to the Beast God... If I can’t fulfill it... should I perhaps tell the Beast God the reason why?"
