Chapter 578 - 566: Old Drunk!
Chapter 578 - 566: Old Drunk!
Qi Lian the Demi Immortal was stunned. The Monk, the Taoist, and the Idler were frozen in shock. The old drunkard had made his intentions crystal clear; the meaning couldn’t have been more obvious.
One minute passed. Then three. Then five.
For those five minutes, absolute silence reigned on the peak of Kunlun Mountain. Not a single insect or bird made a sound, and even the howling, frigid wind seemed to fade away. Throughout this time, Qi Lian the Demi Immortal did not utter a single word, and neither did the Monk, the Taoist, or the others.
"Regardless of the Purple Forbidden Star, our most pressing task is to find the Child of the Heavenly Dao! The day he reveals himself is the day I descend from this mountain! Though I have gone blind and my Cultivation has fallen from the God Realm to the Gang Realm, I still have a few tricks up my sleeve!" Qi Lian the Demi Immortal declared stubbornly.
After he finished speaking, he slowly walked back to the giant rock at the cliff’s edge, sat down cross-legged, and closed his eyes.
"Old One!" the old drunkard couldn’t help but shout through clenched teeth.
"Go back!" Qi Lian the Demi Immortal said softly.
"Is this really necessary?" the old drunkard asked with a worried frown, all traces of his earlier drunkenness gone.
"Just consider it a favor to me! Help me find the Child of the Heavenly Dao!" Qi Lian the Demi Immortal paused, then added wearily.
"Why must we get involved? Whether it’s the Child of the Heavenly Dao or Qin Fan, do we really need to wade into these troubled waters? If it truly comes to that, it will be a matter of the nation’s destiny! What difference can we possibly make? This will only intensify their hatred, anger, and murderous intent!"
The other three remained silent. Only the old drunkard continued to shout his questions hysterically.
"The choice to search or not is in your hands! I will not force you. Now, stop disturbing my peace and scram! Scram! SCRAM!"
The three successive shouts of "scram" completely exposed Qi Lian the Demi Immortal’s simmering irritation. His booming voice caused pebbles to dislodge from the boulder he sat upon and tumble over the cliff’s edge.
"Drunkard!"
"Drunkard!"
"Drunkard!"
Seeing Qi Lian the Demi Immortal erupt in rage, the Monk, the Taoist, and the Idler all cried out in alarm. If this continued, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Watching Qi Lian the Demi Immortal’s stern, unmoving profile, the old drunkard let out a long breath. Then, gritting his teeth, he turned and walked back toward his companions.
The Monk, the Taoist, and the Idler gazed at Qi Lian the Demi Immortal’s stubborn back. They all opened their mouths as if to speak, but ultimately said nothing. After sharing a knowing glance, they turned and began to walk away.
"Old Drunkard, should we search?" asked the Monk, holding his Zen Stick, as their footsteps rustled on the ground.
At his words, the Taoist and the Idler also turned their gazes to the old drunkard. Despite their usual bickering, they trusted his judgment when it came to making decisions.
"Search, we must search! Fight, we must fight! Without Old One, we bastards wouldn’t be here today! Whether it’s a mountain of blades or a sea of fire, the Netherworld or Hell, we’ll wade through it all!" the old drunkard roared. He twisted open the stopper of his flask and took a fierce gulp, immediately sinking back into a swaying, unsteady state. He then threw his head back with a self-mocking, bitter laugh.
Behind them, Qi Lian the Demi Immortal’s elderly frame trembled involuntarily. Without turning, he opened eyes that could see nothing and, facing the abyss below, muttered silently to himself. The way of the Heavenly Dao is cyclical. I only wish to follow my heart to a good beginning and a good end. That is all. Nothing more.
「Jinling University」
In the girls’ dormitory area, when Jiang Yino returned to her room with a forced smile on her pale face, Du Ruanqin and Ou Mingsi were immediately stunned.
"Uh, what’s going on here?" Du Ruanqin asked, breaking the silence in her surprise.
"What’s going on? Nothing’s wrong! Oh, have you two had breakfast? If not, I can go buy some!" Jiang Yino replied, forcing a cheerful smile. She turned as if to leave, but Ou Mingsi’s quick reflexes stopped her, grabbing her by the arm.
Instinctively, Ou Mingsi placed a hand on Jiang Yino’s forehead.
"That’s strange, you don’t have a fever. Yino, what’s wrong with you? What time do you think it is? Why are you still talking about breakfast? Wait, no, seriously, what’s wrong? You look as if you’ve lost your Three Souls and Seven Spirits!" Lowering her hand, Ou Mingsi was completely confused.
"Ah! Right, I’m just confused! Nothing’s wrong with me, I’m just a little tired. I’m going to lie down for a bit!" With that, Jiang Yino completely ignored the strange looks from Du Ruanqin and Ou Mingsi. Without even taking off her coat, let alone her shoes, she collapsed onto her bed.
"Her shoes! Her shoes! My god, she’s really lost her Three Souls and Seven Spirits! Mingsi, help her take them off!" Du Ruanqin shouted urgently as Jiang Yino started to pull the covers over herself.
Hearing this, Ou Mingsi quickly grabbed Jiang Yino’s feet as she tried to curl up under the covers. Jiang Yino, however, remained dazed and completely unaware of what was happening. Ou Mingsi quickly slipped off Jiang Yino’s boots and let her pull her feet back under the blanket. With a single tug, Jiang Yino pulled the covers completely over her head.
Seeing this, Ou Mingsi and Du Ruanqin exchanged a worried glance. With a tacit understanding, they both looked toward the hallway. The next moment, they tiptoed out of the room.
"Ruanqin, what on earth is wrong with Yino? I’ve never seen her like this!" Ou Mingsi said worriedly.
"Sigh..." Du Ruanqin pursed her lips and shook her head. "She was so happy about her date with Qin Fan this morning. To come back looking like this, what else could it be but a matter of the heart? It’s obvious!"
"Ah! So, you think she had a fight with Qin Fan, or did he dump her?" Ou Mingsi asked, her pretty brows furrowing.
"Based on my experience as a seasoned expert," Du Ruanqin began, shaking her head despite still waiting for her own first love, "a simple argument wouldn’t cause her to lose her Three Souls and Seven Spirits like this. But as for Qin Fan dumping her... that’s impossible! You know how much he cares about her. He would never just dump her like that!"
"If it’s not a fight and not a breakup, then what could have happened to make her act this way?" Ou Mingsi was completely baffled by Du Ruanqin’s logical points.
"I don’t know either! But we can find out by just calling Qin Fan, right? Let’s ask him. Damn it, if he really hurt Yino, we can’t let him get away with it!"
Saying this, Du Ruanqin pulled out her phone. Although she had never spoken to Qin Fan on the phone, she had his number saved. She quickly found his contact and, without a second thought, dialed.
The call connected almost instantly.
"Speak!" Qin Fan’s voice came through, cold as ice.
His chilling tone made Du Ruanqin shiver, and her conviction that the two had fought grew even stronger.
"It’s Du Ruanqin!" she said timidly, all her earlier righteous fury vanishing in the face of his icy voice.
