Chapter 639: The Mysterious Cave
Chapter 639: The Mysterious Cave
Everyone resumed their search, meticulously combing through the entirety of Pegasus Mountain. Eventually, Kulad and the Secret Alliance confronted Colding and the Demon Banquet Alliance, but it was clear neither party had found anything. Colding snorted and led his people away to search the domains they had not yet explored. Chen Anhun, Gu Feng, and the other members of Dragon Front quickly followed them.
The groups began searching once more, this time with even greater care and determination. After all, Cain’s Left Hand was simply too important; they had to obtain it.
Gradually, the two Blood Clan factions drew closer to where Lin Kuang and Britney were hiding, and the air suddenly grew tense. Holding Britney in his arms, Lin Kuang already sensed their approach. To say he wasn’t nervous would be a lie. With so many powerful members of the Blood Clan closing in, how could he not be?
Lin Kuang wasn’t the only one who was anxious; Chen Anhun and Gu Feng were as well. They had already decided that if the Blood Clan discovered Lin Kuang and Britney, they would immediately launch a deadly assault. But just as the vampires were about to close in on them, roars echoed from nearby.
"Back off! We discovered this place first!" someone roared.
"I don’t care who found it first, it’s ours!" another shouted back.
The next moment, the sounds of fighting erupted as the two groups clashed.
Hearing the commotion, both Kulad and Colding paused before leading their people toward the source of the noise. The sounds came from the mountainside, where a skirmish had broken out over a cave just tall enough for a person to enter. The Lord of the Gangrel Clan, from the Secret Alliance, was fighting the Lord of the Giovanni Clan, from the Demon Banquet Alliance. The Dukes of the two Clans fought with lethal intent from the very start, each hoping to eliminate their opponent as quickly as possible. However, their strengths were so evenly matched that a swift victory was impossible. They had come to blows because they sensed something unusual about the cave, operating on the principle that it was better to investigate a false lead than to miss the real one.
By now, Colding and Kulad had arrived with their people. The two factions formed separate camps, facing off in a tense confrontation that could erupt into a major battle at any moment.
"What’s going on?" Kulad demanded.
"Respected Elder Kulad, I discovered this cave, but the Giovanni Clan tried to seize it, so we started fighting," the Lord of the Gangrel Clan explained hastily.
Kulad nodded and turned his gaze to Colding. "Colding, your people were in the wrong."
"Kulad, spare me the lecture," Colding scoffed. "If my people had found this cave first, yours would have attacked us too, so don’t stand there preaching to me. We’ll both enter the cave. Whoever finds Cain’s Left Hand will do so by their own skill."
"Fine, it’s decided then. Our people will lead the way," Kulad said with a smile.
"Hmph, in your dreams," Colding sneered. "We’ll lead the way together. What gives the Secret Alliance the right to go first?"
"That’s fine, too," Kulad conceded with a nod. "Gallio, you will lead." He glanced at Gallio beside him, who was the Lord of the Gangrel Clan.
"Yes, Respected Elder Kulad," Gallio said with a slight bow.
"Amanda, you lead as well. Be wary of their people," Colding instructed. Amanda was the Lord of the Giovanni Clan, the one who had just been fighting Gallio.
"Yes, Respected Elder Colding," Amanda replied respectfully.
"Now that the vanguard is settled, let’s go," Kulad said calmly.
Colding nodded in agreement. Amanda and Gallio quickly entered the cave, which was spacious enough for two people to walk side-by-side. Gallio and Amanda took the lead, with Kulad and Colding following closely behind. This way, if anything were discovered, the two Elders could react immediately. In an instant, the entire group of Blood Clan members had filed into the cave.
A few minutes after they left, Chen Anhun and Gu Feng arrived with their people. Lin Kuang and Britney had also quietly made their way to the location.
"So there’s a cave here. It seems Cain’s Left Hand really could be inside," Chen Anhun remarked, looking at the entrance. "However, this is also an opportunity for us. Inside the cave, they’ll have nowhere to run. We can kill them all. Of course, we’ll only make our move after they’ve found Cain’s Left Hand."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Alright, let’s move out," Chen Anhun said, then glanced at Lin Kuang and Britney. "Are you two sure you want to go in?"
"Of course," Lin Kuang nodded. "Although my strength is lacking compared to all of you, I’m confident I can kill a Duke."
"I’m going in too," Britney added. "I can protect myself and won’t get in your way."
"Good. In that case, let’s go," Chen Anhun said, nodding. He and Gu Feng quickly entered the cave, with Wei Zhong, Gu Zhen, and the others following swiftly behind.
Finally, Lin Kuang and Britney exchanged a glance and hurried into the cave as well.
The cave was pitch-black, so dark you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. However, the darkness was no obstacle for them. Since they all possessed night vision, it was of little consequence. They moved forward quickly but cautiously, with no idea how long the tunnel stretched. They soon noticed that the passage not only grew wider but also continuously descended, as if leading to some strange, eerie subterranean place. This peculiarity made everyone even more cautious.
It wasn’t just Lin Kuang’s group that grew more careful. Ahead of them, Kulad, Colding, and the other members of the Blood Clan had also become extremely vigilant. The deeper they went, the more they felt an oppressive aura, though they couldn’t quite identify what kind of aura it was. But to them, the eeriness of the place only strengthened their belief that Cain’s Left Hand was very likely here.
