Chapter 230 -: 229 The four stationary continents.[1]
"That was how the geography of the modern world had come to be." The thought lingered in Julius’s mind as violent winds tore past him.
The air screamed around his body like countless invisible blades. Even with several layers of protective spells wrapped around himself, the pressure was still overwhelming.
Every gust struck the barriers surrounding him and sent dull vibrations through his ears.
The constant roaring reminded him of being slapped across both ears hard enough to leave a ringing sensation behind.
Above them stretched an endless sea of clouds. Vast white masses drifted beneath their feet while the sky remained brilliantly blue overhead.
Their descent cut through layer after layer of mist, causing the clouds to split apart before closing behind them once more.
Julius turned his head toward Rosalina.
Unlike him, she was surrounded by dozens of colorful barriers. Crimson, gold, blue, silver, and several shades he couldn’t even name floated around her like translucent ribbons.
The defensive spells twisted and shifted continuously, dispersing the violent air currents before they could touch her.
A moment later, Rosalina’s voice echoed directly inside his mind through their mental connection.
[So what happened after that? Did he manage to kill Fate and Destiny?]
Julius let out a thoughtful hum. They had been discussing the ancient history of the world for quite a while now.
More specifically, he had been explaining the legends surrounding the Invincible Path.
Back in the 101 Treasure tower, the records describing the path’s terrifying power had included fragments of the boy’s story, and much of what he knew came from those fragments combined with information from the future.
[No.]
Julius shook his head slightly as he answered through the mental link.
[There isn’t any information after that.]
The rushing wind continued to howl around them as he organized his thoughts.
[At least none that I know of. According to Nickel, the author basically skipped that entire part. The story never properly explained what happened after the battle against the Supreme Gods.]
He paused for a moment. [Though I don’t think he managed to kill Destiny.]
Rosalina’s brows furrowed. [Why?]
Julius glanced toward the endless clouds below them. [Do you remember what Miasma said?]
Rosalina looked puzzled. [Miasma?]
[Back when she thought she had killed me.] Julius chuckled softly. [You know, when she started monologuing and explaining her entire family history.]
Recognition slowly appeared on Rosalina’s face.
[Ah...]
Julius nodded.
[Exactly. She said something along the lines of, "It is all according to my plan, dear. What you are seeing right now is not something I came up with just now."]
The memory finally resurfaced.
[That’s right.] Rosalina’s eyes widened slightly. [She also said her father was the progenitor of the Zlycons.]
[Yep.]
[But what does that have to do with Destiny?]
A grin spread across Julius’s face.
The expression was mostly hidden beneath the rushing winds and flashing barriers around them, but it was there nonetheless.
[Oh, Rose.] His tone became dramatically sorrowful. [Your memory is truly deteriorating these days.]
The grin widened. [Do you want me to arrange some therapy sessions after we land? Maybe a few memory exercises?]
Rosalina stared at him with a completely deadpan expression.
Even through their mental connection, Julius could practically feel the unimpressed look she was giving him.
Rather than continuing the joke and risking retaliation, he wisely returned to the topic.
[Anyway.] His voice became serious again.
[Miasma also mentioned that her grandmother was a goddess while her grandfather was a human who had mastered the Invincible Path.]
Rosalina blinked.
Julius continued. [So my guess is pretty simple.]
The clouds parted beneath them as they descended further, revealing distant mountain ranges far below.
[Her grandmother was probably Destiny.]
Rosalina’s eyes widened. [And her grandfather?]
[The boy from the legend, obviously.] Julius shrugged.
The more he thought about it, the more reasonable the theory seemed.
[At some point they probably met, somehow fell in love, and ended up having a child. That child became Miasma’s father, and through him the Zlycon bloodline was born.]
Rosalina remained silent as she processed the possibility.
The wind continued roaring around them while sunlight reflected off the countless magical barriers surrounding their bodies.
[Actually, there are a few things that support the theory.]
Julius continued. [For example, Rosel was called the Daughter of Destiny in the future.]
Rosalina slowly nodded. [Even though she isn’t a Zlycon?]
[Exactly. And she wasn’t literally born from Destiny either.] Julius folded his arms as he descended through another layer of clouds.
[Which means the title probably isn’t referring to direct parentage. It could be referring to ancestry, inheritance, or some deeper connection that survived through countless generations.]
His eyes narrowed slightly.
[Whatever happened after the boy’s victory, I don’t think Destiny died. In fact, I think she and the boy became connected somehow, and that connection eventually led to the existence of the Zlycons.]
He paused briefly before adding, [Of course, that’s all speculation. According to Nickel, the author left such a massive hole in history that everyone can only make guesses.]
A sigh escaped him.
[Honestly, for all we know, the guy defeated three Supreme Gods, challenged Fate itself, reshaped the entire world, and then decided to retire somewhere with Destiny and start a family.]
Rosalina stared at him for several seconds.
[Somehow, that sounds exactly like something you would do.]
Julius immediately looked offended.
[That’s completely different.]
[How?]
[Because I would make sure the family part comes first.]
[Hmph!]
Rosalina let out an exaggerated snort and turned her head away from him.
Still, she knew he was right.
If Julius had truly been in that situation, the first thing he would have done after surviving would have been starting a family. She could already imagine him enthusiastically talking about having enough children to form an entire sports team.
The thought made her lips twitch.
Unfortunately for him, she certainly wasn’t planning on giving birth to that many. The pain alone would be unimaginable. One or two children would already be more than enough.
Besides, they already had Rosel.
There was no need for more.
As those thoughts drifted through her mind, her gaze suddenly shifted downward.
The scenery beneath the clouds finally revealed itself.
And for the first time, the geography of the Four Stationary Continents appeared before her eyes in its entirety.
Beneath the swaying sea of clouds, four enormous continents stretched across the world below. From this height, they looked less like landmasses and more like pieces of a giant map laid across the surface of the planet.
They clustered close together, separated by vast rivers and seas that resembled thin lines drawn by an artist’s hand.
Together, the continents formed a rough triangular shape.
At the center of that triangle lay an enormous body of water, and within its heart rested the fourth continent.
The smallest of the four.
From above, it almost resembled a headquarters overseeing the rest of the world.
For a few moments, Rosalina simply stared.
The scale was difficult to comprehend.
Even mountains appeared insignificant from this height, while entire kingdoms were reduced to tiny patches of color scattered across the land.
"Impressive..." she muttered softly.
