Chapter 1920 - 1917: Bullied (Part 2)
"Alright, alright, you’re not a little kid; you’re a teenager now," Lin Tian said with a laugh, and only then did Zhang Mingxing smile with satisfaction.
The boy appeared cheerful and bright, seeming unaffected by what had just happened. Lin Tian couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Do you always get bullied like this on the mountain?"
"Not really. Most of the senior brothers and sisters are quite nice. It’s just that I lack talent, so it’s easy for others to make fun of me," Zhang Mingxing shook his head and said.
"Actually, you can excel academically too. Aren’t you worried about falling behind with your studies by coming up the mountain so often? By the way, today isn’t a holiday, right? Shouldn’t you be at school?" Lin Tian wanted to guide him a bit, as some people are naturally not suited for certain things.
Zhang Mingxing scratched his head, a bit embarrassed, and said, "I took leave. My grades are always in the top five. What others learn in ten days, I can learn in one day. So I spend my extra time coming up the mountain to learn about the Tao, without it affecting my studies at all."
"Wow, you’re actually a top student." Lin Tian was very surprised, then said, puzzled, "But wait, someone who’s so good at studying should have decent perception and intelligence. So why can’t you learn the ways of the Tao?"
"I don’t know either. Maybe it’s just not right for me," Zhang Mingxing shook his head and said.
With Zhang Mingxing leading the way, Lin Tian arrived at a charming courtyard. The courtyard was simple, with no flowers or plants, only a few tubs of water lilies. Yet, the courtyard was filled with fragrance, not from flowers, but the aroma of meals.
The aroma of food wafted out from the house, accompanied by lively noises. Zhang Mingxing introduced, "This is the Zhang Family’s public dining hall where the disciples come to eat. Of course, some cook for themselves."
Lin Tian walked into the building and found the dining hall quite spacious. Though it couldn’t compare to a school cafeteria, it was more than enough for the Zhang Family’s disciples on the mountain.
At this moment, quite a few disciples were sitting inside, having breakfast. As soon as Lin Tian appeared, he instantly caught the attention of the disciples. Almost everyone’s eyes focused on him, and the noisy dining room immediately quieted down.
Zhang Mingxing might have experienced such attention before and looked a bit nervous. Lin Tian patted his shoulder and comforted him, "Relax, don’t mind them. Go find a seat, and I’ll get breakfast."
"No, Brother Lin, I can’t trouble you..." Zhang Mingxing hesitated, but Lin Tian waved it off, turned around, and headed to the window.
The surrounding disciples cast envious glances at him. Zhang Mingxing, after all, still had the heart of a child. Being envied by others made him very happy.
To repay Lin Tian, he struggled to find a spot by the window. Just as he sat down, three people entered the door, fixed their sights on his spot, and surrounded him directly.
"Zhang Mingxing, give our Brother Cheng a seat. It’s such a waste for a kid like you to take this spot, you know?" a disciple looked down at Zhang Mingxing and said unceremoniously.
Zhang Mingxing looked up and saw that the leading young man’s face was bruised and slightly swollen, especially with one big black circle over his left eye, like a panda, though uneven, looking quite comical.
But Zhang Mingxing didn’t dare to laugh, because this person was Zhang Zhicheng. Although Zhang Zhicheng lost to Lin Tian last night, he still wasn’t someone Zhang Mingxing could offend.
If Zhang Zhicheng whispered to the Great Elder, the Great Elder could ban him from coming up the mountain at any time. No one would stand up for a disciple doing odd jobs like him.
Normally, Zhang Mingxing would have given up the seat, but today he was hosting Lin Tian. For that reason alone, he wasn’t willing to give up.
"Brother Zhicheng, I’m not alone. This seat is for..." Zhang Mingxing tried to explain, but a disciple waved to interrupt him.
"Stop wasting time testing our patience," the disciple said displeased.
Yet Zhang Mingxing pursed his lips stubbornly and still didn’t move. The other two disciples grew angry and were about to take action when a tray was placed on the table.
"Who dares to..." The two disciples, already fuming, were about to lash out, but they swallowed their words when they saw who it was.
"Lin Tian!" Zhang Zhicheng spat out through gritted teeth, looking very sullen.
It was naturally Lin Tian who came back with breakfast. Looking at Zhang Zhicheng’s panda eye, he deliberately expressed surprise, "Oh, isn’t this Zhang Zhicheng? I almost didn’t recognize you."
Some people, having noticed the situation here for a while, burst out laughing at Lin Tian’s mocking words, even spitting their food.
"So lively in the dining hall so early in the morning?" a melodious voice sounded at the doorway, drawing everyone’s attention again.
Two beautiful women walked in, one in a black dress with silver hair, the other in a purple dress with black hair, both stunningly beautiful. When the quick-witted among them saw the silver-haired woman, they quickly stood and bowed.
"Good morning, Aunt Master!"
"Good morning, Aunt Master!"
All the disciples stopped eating and stood to salute, naturally directing their salutations to the silver-haired beauty, Zhang Ruyan, with the other being Zhang Lingyu.
No junior wasn’t afraid of this unrestrained Aunt Master. Yet, the two women didn’t look aside, walking straight to Lin Tian and sat down without even glancing at Zhang Zhicheng and his group.
"Why are you still standing there? Get lost, you’re ruining my appetite," Zhang Ruyan said coldly, showing no courtesy at all. Even against the Great Elder, she was unyielding, let alone a junior like Zhang Zhicheng.
Zhang Zhicheng’s face changed, turning even darker. He turned to his companions and threw out a few words, "Let’s go!"
Since Lin Tian appeared, the other disciples already wanted to sneak away, not to mention now with an unreasonable Aunt Master coming, they dared not linger and quickly retreated.
The group didn’t even eat breakfast, left the dining hall, and once outside the courtyard, Zhang Zhicheng’s face turned even more sullen. His already bruised and swollen face looked particularly hideous, and the other two disciples didn’t dare to breathe loudly.
"You two, take turns watching Lin Tian. He’s a college student and not on holiday, suddenly coming to the Zhang Family. I don’t believe he has no reason. Report everything to me," Zhang Zhicheng said coldly.
"Don’t worry, Brother Cheng, we’ll keep a close watch on him and won’t miss a single move." The two disciples flattered.
"Don’t be careless. Lin Tian has strong abilities. Don’t get caught, or else... you know the consequences of angering him," Zhang Zhicheng warned.
Both quickly nodded, "Don’t worry, Brother Cheng, we’ll use the great barrier to hide our presence and won’t get discovered."
"Haha, clever..." Zhang Zhicheng chuckled a few times, a smile appearing in his eyes.
Inside the dining hall, with two beauties sitting across from Lin Tian, he was nonchalant, eating as usual. However, Zhang Mingxing was somewhat restrained, especially since one of them was the legendary Aunt Master.
"Zhang Mingxing, leave after you eat. Lin Tian doesn’t need you to wait on him," Zhang Ruyan suddenly said, without raising her head.
"Ah? Oh, okay..." Zhang Mingxing, flustered, quickly got up to leave, not even finishing the breakfast on his plate.
